Wow PRG, that's an awful "pageload". Thanks for the info.

Like we talked about in another thread, sometimes these big corps just don't have a clue when it comes to the internet. You would think someone associated with AOL would know better. But "headquerters" probably has a "T-1" line or some such fast connection and don't realize at all that their site is a dog.

Looks like we need to send them to some of those sites that check out your site or better yet we need one of the web gurus here to show them how to put their site on a "diet". 600 kb for a background is unforgivable.

My own page's background image is 56 kb. I know I could do better with my own page, but compared to the figures you posted, my page is lean and mean. I tried to put them both in a "page analyzer" but the site (the analyzer) is glitchig out right now.

If they had a abundence of traffic... as James said.. It can do wierd stuff... Look what happened right here to PSU.

I'm sure thier techs are scrambling to adjust to the high traffic.

Sometimes it takes time to find just the right 'thing' that is logged.

They probably don't have a gazillion gig server farm, but probably did add a server or two or adjust the chrons during the peak, and thay would have slowed them down a bit also.

Mo, I agree. The response probably surprised them. I waited and went back after midnight for that reason. Their server wasn't having trouble sending me the info - I sat and did nothing but watch the KBs rack up in the info page of my Comodo Firewall trying to figure out what all the traffic was. It would add up about 600KB, then the page (visible behind my Comodo window) would finally clear, and all that would be visible was the background. Then as more KB's on a separate line racked up, more images would appear until the page was finally complete. I thing my conclusion that the BG was 600 KB is reasonable, and for some reason, it redownloaded on EACH page. I did send them a suggestion detailing this problem, though, so I am hopeful they might change it soon.

When you are on slow loading pages, the programs you have running on your machine can interfer with speed also.

I went to sign-up, but first I read all the terms and agreements and found a couple contradictions from what was actually printed on the sign-up page versus what's in small print on the agreement page. Needless to say, I cancelled the sign-up process and closed the connection.

View the following screenshots with contradictions in red.

Well, that does seem a bit, um, contradictory; however, they seem to need a copy editor, perhaps. My interpretation is that they mean to say "we are not planning to immediately go check your credit record, nor to issue you credit, at this time," however, "we reserve the right to check your credit record if we deem it necessary, especially if for some reason we suspect fraud or the like." However, you are certainly wise to not use their service if that makes you uncomfortable, and it is a good thing to read all the terms of any service. Thanks for pointing it out in case we might mind also.

The way PRG "interpreted" it is kind of how I read it too.

I believe in the terms part it says something about "we aren't offering credit at this time, but if/when we do ...blah, blah, blah"

At least that's the impression I got when I went thru the pages when I signed up. Maybe I read it wrong, but that's my impression of it.

I'm also not trying to defend them as they have had a few glitches and mistakes. But who's site doesn't have a few typos or grammerical problems or like this possibly something that just came out wrong. I know my own site has had more than it's share of badly worded things. I know what I meant, but others are totally confused at times.

Ok, Re the Pageload - went back to RME tonight to add my bank account. The main page (login.aspx) still took FOREVER to load. I looked a little harder, and it seems it might actually be the 400+K in javascript and not the background (entire page is still over 600K) - (I did save page and view source to try to figure it out). In that page source in the javascript section there is reference to verifying email address - so seems to be about Registering not Logging In - and it was edited a few days ago, perhaps to trim it down. Also, everything on that page was marked NO_CACHE which explains re-downloading the picture each page. I sent them a tech note about this and the next.

The internal pages loaded quite reasonably, so once registration is complete, navigation inside the site seem fine. And the better news, on logging out, I was offered a link to log in again, and THAT page loaded in about 1/3 the time of the other login page and, at least right then, remembered who I was as I had asked. I bookmarked it, and I post it here for your use:

P_R_G - I've got a couple fellow sellers who are on PH and using RME. They've not stated any issues about this, which makes me wonder if they avoid the front page. I know I do - I've got the sign in page bookmarked vs. the home page.

I have tho, when asked been sharing the home page with folks for informational purposes....I may rethink that! Confused Confused

Yup, just went back again after getting offline and the page took about 1 min to load vs 4-5 and it does have a link to Registration/RegStep1.aspx so that might save them a bit of time. (It also did remember me, unlike the other page.) It has a bit less info splash-wise...

Yes. I PM'd the OP and suggested they could edit the title if they wished... Ah, well. Hey, maybe we could start a new thread and ask the moderators to merge this one into that one...

But then, you know that word is going to get attention, so they start reading, and they find out Smile And they might never have clicked on RME is great! LOL

And I'm thinking it may only be the registration process with all the javascript that goes so awfully slow. At least I'm hoping...
