A bit of info for anyone trying to use RME that is on dial-up. I had a customer today that wanted to pay and it just took forever to get to a screen that never finished. So she called RME and they were aware of a problem and mentioned that it happens mostly with Firefox.

They suggested trying another browser. So she tried Opera and it worked pretty well. Loaded somewhat faster and didn't have to re-load the graphics for every page (kept things in cache).

Anyway, if you are on dial-up, try Opera for RME.

I had someone ask me if I wanted to sign up for this service. I was not sure I did but I told the person to send me an invite. I signed up and filled out all the information and now the account is stuck in limbo. I can sign in to the account. When I try to accept the $25.00 it seemed that the rest of the pages I filled out did not go through so I tried to fill them out again. I put in my birthday but when I tried to put in my SSN it won't take. This site scares me. Since I am already getting my social security checks I'm not sure someone else could steel the number but I still don't like the way this site is doing the signup process. In my opinion it is a scam. This site is located in Florida but the Bank is located in South Dakota.

I answered that South Dacota question somewhere in 1 of these threads before.

Basically, about 15-20 years ago some tax law in South Dacota made it very advantagous for banks to "headquarter" in that state. CitiBank is also headquartered there yet of course has departments other places as well.

As far as you sign-up problem, give them a phone call. Others have gotten thru and had things straightened out.

If we continue to post to this thread we are increasing the perception that Revolution Money Exchange is a scam. Start a new one, those who like it so this thread sinks to the bottom.

Definitely a Firefox problem. I rarely use Firefox because of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the banking system in South Dakota is deregulated and because of that, they can mostly play by their own rules.

mysterious - when I got married and changed my name with PayPal, they wanted a copy of my marriage license, my new driver's license, and my social security number... And I've been with them since they were x.com, too. All the money companies are getting more and more strict.

On the plus side, at least RME is backed by a B&M BANK, unlike PP. Therefore I was not concerned at all about giving them my SS#. Google Checkout requires your SS# to open an account (to accept cc payments). It's the way of the world, now. Just goes to show how the gov't once again doesn't protect us - we were supposed to NEVER have to give our SS#, EXCEPT to the gov't, and now, EVERYONE wants it. GRRR.

Oh, yes, things have greatly changed since the Privacy Act of 1974. I just Googled Privacy Act to get the correct year, and there's an Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 and it looks like another from 1988, too. Shocked

Mary,

NO, no credit cards yet. If a buyer wants to pay for something more than they have in their account, they need to "fund" the account from their bank. That will take about 4 business days.

Yes, it did turn out to be a scam. I never, ever did get $25. Customer service said I didn't complete stuff on time, but I sure did. I dunno if I still have an account with this site, or if it's still 'in business' but they didn't let me close my account, either. So, some unknown identity ended up with my name, address, phone number, birthdate, bank account, and SS# and I ended up with nothing but the run around. They never even made two deposits. I closed my bank account later and put an alert on my credit report, just in case.

RME is owned by American Express now.
