Folks, mostly this follows the Whitman/Donahue hey here's a discount with the right hand and the left hand slaps you like an NCIS proby when you try to take it.

The DSR's besides being damn near impossible to maintain given people are people, is really there so you don't dare try to sell on another site....just run down the to do's to be a good little ebay puppet, and you will find don't dare sell on another site, cause if you do, the Gestapo (ebay and its whining customers) will spear you. And you will lost that magic (non-existant) discount.

Ebay isn't a venue, it's a freakin' uberlandlord who meddles incessantly in your biz....and then tells the pr media flacks and hacks on Wall Street how well they are doing squashing those pesky indie sellers. Sorry about the rant, but these people smell to high heaven. And their methodology is so transparent. Begone little guy, we don't want ya soiling our diamond based website that we didn't invent but will eventually kill.....AAArrrgh, RatherRuss

Crying or Very sad My sales have now dropped to an all-time LOW on Ebay.. and just do not understand it ? Can Ebay 'control' our number of sales and bids? I'm not a huge seller, normally try to keep 100 listings going at all times.

I was shipping out about 60 items per week (a couple of years ago) That number has dwindled something terrible- I'm now down to about 6 sales per WEEK ! Things started going 'bad' around the middle of November- and hit an all time low on January 7th, for me.. So many 'glitches'- and 17 days in January with NO SALES at all !! This is NOT normal for me.

My 12 month DSRs are 4.9 with a 4.8 in shipping... My feedback score just dropped from 100% to 99.8%, last week, after a person on Ola purchased from me and left me a negative feedback !! Nothing I can do about it- I'm barely getting a 'watcher' anymore on my items.

I am a 'top-rated' seller and get the 20% discount... but, HAVE to wonder how long that will last, with these low sales ?
Do you think Ebay CAN control our number of sales? Maybe Ebay IS doing something, now, about getting rid of the 'Mom & Pop' sellers??

I take my business VERY seriously. Always selling great items, and making sure they are perfectly described- My communication is alway very fast- initial and follow-up. My packing is the best... I do everything in my power to please my customers... Betty Lou

Sellers will go to a lot of alternative sites. I dont use either of the ones you mentioned but as with any alternative site, the results are not gong to be what you had at eBay. I suggest trying different sites and seeing which one works best for you. Just picking a couple of sites without researching them first, listing and sitting back to wait for sales could be a sure fire remedy for failure.

I've tried alternatives in the past. Yahoo Auctions, even Froogle for crying out loud. Amazon was good but I had two problem buyers and that was it, I was banned.

Can anyone provide a good list of alternative sites? I see now that vinyl records are a tough area and will phase that out. But I sell all kinds of stuff.

Will half.com still be available if Ebay restricts us?

The DSR's are not impossible to maintain but they are very strict. I checked my accounts and both are well within eBay's standards but I know that can change real fast. I am fortunate enough to do high volume selling so that it would take about 20 people to have a negative impact on me.

The ones who are going to be hurt are the low volume sellers. 2 or 3 people can keep them from selling on eBay.

Any seller who wishes to remain on eBay and in a comfort zone has to really step up their game to another level. eBay wants to get rid of a lot of us and this is how they plan on doing it. Thery are trying to get rid of sellers who give them a bad rep and I understand that but unfortunately, they will be wiping out a lot of good sellers in the process. What eBay needs to do to protect these sellers is to also set a higher standard for who can and can not shop on eBay at the same time. No more "three strikes and you're out". A buyer can cause a lot of damage while waiting for 3 NPB strikes. If someone with no feedback gets an NPB he should be suspended right away before he can do the same to other sellers. This would help (a little at least) keep down the number of sellers who are forced to leave because of the new DSR standards.

Sellers should be allowed to put in more parameters as to who can and can not shop in their stores. If I don't want to sell to someone with less than 5 feedback, has been on eBay less than 90 days or has a NPB in the last 6 months I should have the ability to block that person from buying my items. The parameters sellers have to choose from right now are not stringent enough.

Lots of sites to try out. Just read through the forum.

Good question about half.com. I would say that because they are connected to eBay that they have the same requirements but I could be mistaken.

Your DSR Scores meet eBay's standards. How about the number/percentage of 1s and 2s?

Truthfully? I don't believe for a MINUTE- that my customers gave me these low scores !! This is Ebay's "CONTROL-BOARD' !!

Yes.. I've been getting the 20% discount each month- BUT have found SO MANY errors and overcharges on my monthly statements- that they aren't giving me ANYTHING !!

I've always been a good seller. You email me through 'ask seller a question' I answer immediately !! You buy- you immediately get an invoice- You pay- You immediatley get a 'Thank You' , and notice of when your item will ship !! I would NEVER sell an item and not describe it perfectly ! I use lots of good pictures on my items ! I leave great feedback as soon as an item is paid for - I spend a LOT of money on great packing supplies... I'm doing all I CAN do, to please my customers- If I receive a complaint, of any kind- I refund- no questions asked (and often let them keep the item !) I do everything in my Power to avoid a negative feedback !! Thanks to Ebay !!

All of this is beyond my control, and yours !! That Dashboard and scores were put into place for ONE reason only- and that's to control our standing with Ebay... You just don't go, from making great sales, and getting great DSR scores- to falling flat on your face... when you are doing NOTHING differently ??

PostPosted: Thu Feb 04, 2010 3:12 pm Post subject:  Re: DSR Ratings #55 Back to top

Here is my prediction on what will happen on eBay’s April Fool’s Day DSR fiasco; and I do think April Fools is the perfect time for eBay to turn on the DSR Fiasco.

All the dishonest, “Top Rated” sellers, will go on a buying spree, buying from their competitors, using secondary accounts just to leave 2s on the DSR knowing it will close down their competition. A few honest sellers will be left, but only the Big Guys that get 5,000+ feedbacks a month. After that, eBay will be run by the dishonest seller, who will figure out a way to get rid of even the Big Guys. Once eBay figures out the mistake, it will hopefully be too late because the sellers that were driven away will find other venues to sell from. eBay will then offer all kinds of incentives to get the sellers back, but hopefully the sellers will be smart enough to not support eBay, like eBay is now not supporting us.

It is unfortunate, but when you give slime cracks to ooze through it always will and eBay has just given them a HUGE crack to the Slime Sellers. Sort of like hiding the bidder history, now Shill Bidding is common place among the Slime Seller community and who else benefits beside the Slime Sellers? eBay & PayPal of course since the Shill Bidding increases the final closing amount.

I started selling on eBay over 10 years ago. Oh how the times have changed.

Luckily I never relied on eBay as my only income and I started downsized my selling on eBay about a year ago and moved to other venues. I may not get as many sells, but I also don’t get as many eBay / PayPal created headaches. Now I mainly use eBay to buy stuff cheap, since there aren’t nearly as many bidders, then I flip it on my other web storefronts.

The GOOD NEWS, there are plenty of other Web Store option out there today, thanks to eBay antagonizing its sellers over the past few years, driving them away. (How many sellers like the "Buyers can only receive positive feedback rule?) Those sellers that will be pushed out of eBay, with the new DSR enforcement, will see it as a blessing a few months later. I sell on Amazon Marketplace, eBid and my own BISI storefront. It is a little more work then eBay alone, but you can’t put a price on the peace of mind not being dependent on eBay.

So that’s my 2 cents on the upcoming April Fool’s Day DSR fiasco.

TSR is just a joke!
here is my performance: 99.8% +
Item as described 4.90 0.00% (0)
Communication 4.91 0.00% (0)
Dispatch time 4.91 0.00% (0)
Postage and packaging charges 4.83 0.00% (0)
(over 3 mths)

But because i dont sell much 1200+ per year I dont qualify for TSR! so much for rewarding good sellers.

I just ignore the whole thing & carry on as normal...after all 99.8% of my customers are happy!

johnk,

A couple of alternative sites for selling records are...

GEMM

Record Barn

And records are by no means going out of popularity.

As for Amazon, forget it, unless you want to see your fees doubled.

Got a question:

I received an e-mail saying that one of my DSR scores was low come April with the new DSR requirements and that my listings could be limited.

If I don't list at all for a month will my DSR's go back up?

They could either way, since all you'd know is that 30 days worth of DSRs would have dropped off.
