I just opened a store on eCrater. It was pretty easy to set things up. My wishlist is for more shipping options and and a way to conduct market research like you can with apps such as Hammertap or Terapeak. I'm sure that as time marches on and the site becomes more popular, we'll begin to see some third party apps being developed for eCrater.

Overall though, I expect some good things from eCrater.

BUT... BUT .. BUT will the buyers RETURN after coming to ecrater items from google and google discounts to buy... will they then spread the word about their headaches from very hard to read site and then when the google discounts end will ecrater fall apart?? I think it would be wise if one could.. to find a way to check the REPEAT buying rate of a site... the site with the highest REPEAT buyers is the SITE to try to build.... that will be the one that will WIN and be the real competitor to feebay!!

Points well taken Scalded. However, a new alternative to greedBay has to rise. As can be seen from all the forum posts on the Net, eCrater seems to be attracting a lot of attention from current and past eBayers.

I do agree that there needs to be better font presentation on EC. Another thing that I'd like to see is the ability to put links in your listings. I looked for a way to do that and didn't find the feature (could've missed it).

The EC forum has lots of posts concerning the seller perspective that EC currently has. Some wish to have more of a buyer perspective. I believe that's a good point. If we'll be advertising to the market, many of those who visit EC will not be just sellers visiting. The marketing focus a seller initiates has no regard for what category a visitor to any EC store will be in... seller or buyer.

Your thoughts...

ecrater has had this so ovious MAJOR problem from the beginning... the site being buyer UNFRIENDLY.. that spells alot about the owners TYPE of thinking......bringing customers to a site from google and googles discounts to buy but the customers see a terrible buyer feeling site.... they then spread that WORD....thats like a store having a grand opening and seeing nothing but crud.. THEY don't COME BACK.... this is a major blunder by the owner....... only google and google discounts is keeping ecrater going..

you mentioned links lol you must not know ecrater much.. they do not allow links or html....

ecrater is a google checkout partner store and i think that is where the sales are coming from.... google has been giving money for people to buy from the partner stores...... yes one can use ecrater to get those temporary sales NOW but if one is thinking of long term good sales best to look elsewhere...

ecrater will be a site that does the OPPOSITE of buyers spreading the word... that site may get hurt later with buyers spreading the word about how much of a headache the site is to read and they won't come back and then the ones who they spoke to... when they see the ecrater name come up on google search they will go another way

sade -fancyflappers.... your fancyflapper store on ecrater shows 14 or 16 sales last month and a 135 sales for the yr... and it shows you only take paypal and google so the feedback would be all of your sales

you say you sell ALOT more on ecrater than ebay.. and said you do DECENT on ebay??

WRONG! You dont get the $10 off if you shop through eCrater, so if one is getting sales now then one should expect sales in the long term. One is best to look to eCrater.

Looks like the scaldedDog aka weirdpatrick, brian1212, etc. etc. has escaped from his jail cell. Lets hope the sheriff puts the cuffs back on him.

I have had appx. twice as many sales as it shows. Average about 5 sales a month until 8/06. I've also made sales that I directly invoiced to the buyer.

Google wasn't implemented until 10/06 and I just recently stopped taking mailed payment.

I should have been more specific; I do better on eCrater than I do in my eBay store.

Why the arguement anyway? If you don't like e-Crater-don't sell there.

I disagree , I've seen decent sales on eCrater compared to eBay recently and without "Checkout" since I'm Canadian.

My biz is low volume by nature and sales are an introduction then you deal direct, eBay has very few sales as well but with far more overhead.

My eCrater hits are from Froogle and Googlebase feeds , as well as driving traffic from other sources

I've not had the boost from a Googlecheckout campaign

eCrater is a valid option to eBay "AS IS"

Less or equal sales with none of the fee's

I love it on eCrater :P

I'm not sure if you're saying that you only get sales if you have google checkout as I just put google on about a week ago and have not had any sales due to it. I had more before when I only had Paypal, money order and cashier's checks, so I think it's just what the buyers are looking for and if they can get it for the right price. I also use google checkout on some of my other sites and it doesn't seem to make any difference there either.

No, you can sell w/o GC. In fact, I was getting almost all GC payment until PP came out withn their stupid $30 scam promo. Now I'm getting mostly PP payment which really irks me. I love my fee free transactions. :(

scalded dog, I wonder the same thing.

I've had an ecrater store for a month with NOT ONE sale. On ebay this week, I sold 37 items - I hate ebay, but all of a sudden my items are selling again - average of 6-8 a day in the last 4 days - nothing on ecrater.

Consequently at this point, I'm not listing any more on ecrater as it's wasting my time when I can list it on ebay with things actually selling.

It's a shame because I would love for a site like ecrater to be more successful than Greedbay but I think there are too many problems with it right now, not least the really horrible navigating once you get into ecrater or an ecrater store. :-(

e-Crater is like having your own web store. Aside from the Froogle/Google submissions e-Crater does for you, you have to do your own promoting. Without advertising you won't sell much. I have a site and every item leads to e-Crater. I promote my site everywhere. You can't expect to just list and sell, it won't work that way. It does take a little effort on the sellers part just like a web store/site. :D

Hey all - just a 'potential' here, but scaldedDog might be a reincarnation of a user that has been here and done that numerous times - my intent....not truly worth disputing with. These are potential 'other usernames' used -

ScaldedDog/DRM/Saturn/WeirdPatrick/Brian 1212/Bojangles/Deepriverman/Ozarkman

And all end up the same - with a big salute to another site after causing all kinds of chaos in a thread. I can't swear to it, but the writing appears to be the same and I'll leave 'it' up to you to decide on responding or not!

Now - having said that, I agree with sade. eCrater is intended to provide webstores for users. It does feed to google, and froogle and my items rank nicely. However, you must also work to market your store, and/or your items.

Google Check-Out integration is optional; if sellers desire to use it, they can. Same with Paypal. Other payment options are also 'acceptable' - based on the store owners desire.

I'm good with where my sales are there - and I've had some upsells. So - if a user wanted to see what I've sold via eCrater, they can see the majority - altho - I've had some Money Orders, which won't be counted in the feedback area. Having said that tho, several of these ended up with great upsells that were independent of eCrater, but I atrribute to eCrater - as that's where the buyer found me first!

:D :D 8)

Best of sales to all - legwork is necessary - IMO - no matter where you sell.
