Incredibly, this is the response a BV member received when asking BVCS how to change one's BV password...
Posted with permission is the reply from BVCS:
I can change your password. What is the current password and what do you want it changed to? Thanks.
Sincerely,
Bidville Customer Service
http://www.bidville.com
Does anyone here know of ANY SITE that would ask a member for his or her password? The password can be changed within TrackPal/My BidVille, so why would the above party request a members password? |

| No one else finds this to be an unusual request from an auction site? |

| I agree Dixie... Someone in CS is pretending to be smart when in actuality they're pretty ignorant. |

| Either they are idiots or they think the person is. No one in their right mind would tell their password. |

well, here's one saying which has served me well...
"never attribute malice to what can easily be explained as stupidity"
in the case of BVCS...i guess it's possible they could be smart enuf to scam ya...but then why would they give ya permission to post that reply here?

Who needs permission? Something as unethical (or ignorant) as this calls action in the event it happens to others. No website at which I have ever had a password has asked me to share it with them, especially one that has my credit card information on file.
The email response was forwarded to uBid... No reply was received. |

interesting that someone came along a month later and bumped the post...
if they were trying to scam you for your password...would they do it as a representative of a site? I doubt that...
was it wrong...oh yes
was it intentional...probably not
was it dumb...oh yea
I agree with npp's quote....

Stupidity it is, then!

What exactly are you implying? If you have something to say, just say it. That's what I do ;) |

Do you really think that the person answering emails at BVCS is not a representative of BV?
You know what "I" find interesting?
I find it interesting that you would think it better that this thread should drop from existence, rather than admitting that it is not only unacceptable, but dangerous when a representative of BV requests information that would gain their access to sensitive information.
There's a time and place for cheerleading. This is not one of them. Unless you can justify WHY a BV employee would request sensitive information rather than simply referring said member to My BidVille (formerly Trackpal) where passwords can be changed without compromising personal information, then it might be best to just control the urge to argue the point.
Now, if you have questions as to why this thread was "bumped", I suggest you ask the person who posted to it before implying that there is something interesting about it having been posted to. To believe that no one is reading it when it was sitting near the top of the list is as ridiculous as implying that the person answering emails at BVCS is not a rep of BV. |

Glad ya posted again, cuff. I almost missed your previous response. I'll start with your 2nd post & go backward...
Quote: › docWrite("quote")Do you really think that the person answering emails at BVCS is not a representative of BV?
uhm...I'm sure they probably are, cuff. That's what made it stupid-er for them to try to scam someone out of their password via however-they-did-that, because they obviously got caught. My sentence was meant to be tonque in cheek. If I messed that up, sorry. The rep that did that either has never sat a help desk before and/or hasn't any sense at all.
Quote: › docWrite("quote")admitting that it is not only unacceptable, but dangerous when a representative of BV requests information that would gain their access to sensitive information.
Cuff, it is always wrong for anyone, anywhere & most especially for a representative of ANY auction site to request a member's password information for any reason. Period. Feel better? Ain't fittin'...it just ain't fittin'...
My days of cheerleading for Bidville are long gone. I encourage its sellers when I get the chance as they deserve it. I know many of them do experience success there, in spite of Bidville's poor business sense and UBid's even crueler sense of business management.
If you think I was posting to start anything...you're wrong. I wasn't.
