| I recently listed a handful of auctions on Bidville for my first time and was surprised to find out they do not allow links in their auctions. I’m used to listing on Yahoo Auctions where they do not care. Ebay doesn’t allow it, but Bidville isn’t Ebay. Bidville does not have much traffic. I would have thought they would welcome links. The more links the better. |

It should be in the TOS when you signed up.
Outgoing links are different then incoming links. And all links should be recipical. Bidville should have a recipical link exchange. |

Bidville does not allow outside linking in their auction listings because it was being abused. Last I knew they still allow it on their About Me pages.
You will find this rule at many, if not most of the alternative sites these days. I've asked before too.
Abuse by those who link to OTHER AUCTION SITES was the first problem. Many site owners don't want sellers linking to their own web stores either for concern about off site sales.
This isn't quite the same as SEO.

I can understand abuse of the system and it’s a shame.
If they allowed me to include a link in my auctions, I would be more than happy to link them on my website. Heck, I would even give them a whole banner. |

It's up to you of course, but what I do is I have a link on my web sites to the auction site/s that does directly to my listings. If I fly a banner for them, I use the referral link so that I'll get referral credits for the site.

I wrote to Yahoo and asked them if a link to a traffic exchange was ok. I don't want to put them up and then have to take them down again on 700 auctions!
I got a canned response directing me to the 'what can I sell' link-typical yahoo! |

| I Think they are mainly concerned about links leading to other business sites. Basically anything that could lead to an off site sale. |

You can put links to sites but not off site sales in your About Me, as far as I understand it.
And heck yahoo basically doesn't bother about anything, in all their years, they have never once put in decent catagories... |

Well If it is an outside link to another auction/store It really should not be allowed (And I am all for it, I really want that site to take off since I am a seller in Bidville),
I mean heck if you owned a store and some Guy or Girl is standing inside your store holding up a sign That says go to there store would you allow it? Of course not.
But you do have another link on in Bidville { View Imported Feedback } from there they can see your items that you are selling in another store plus your feedback
I add my links to yahoo and Blujay, Because The site is a free site and they do not make money with auction listings Like Bidville Does because it is there only source of income.
Unlike FEE Bay Now they make a ton of Money with The Sellers Plus They make a TON of money with advertising? which should be illegal Because I sell Movies and On top of the page in my listing they advertise something like Neflix talk about robbing people or other seller who buy the space???? |

From Bidville:
http://www.bidville.com/help/topics/index.asp?index=8
Outside links are not allowed.
No outside links are allowed in the item description (outside links to your personal website, etc. may be placed on your "About Me" page but are subject to removal by Bidville if the Bidville staff deems the links unacceptable or against our Terms of Service).
At the time that I asked, way back when---links to payment methods were ok, links to other auction sites or marketplaces (FREE or not) or your own site, were not allowed.
Example of my own:
My Example Bidville Listing
Note that I had forgotten to remove the ReallySmartDeals logo from my template, but never heard from Bidville. If they have a problem with it, I would remove it immediately.
My AboutMe Page:
My Bidville AboutMe
Pretty blah, but there it is. My plan is to include ONE banner back to my own store, as allowed in the TOS. Just haven't gotten 'round to it.
Linking from my own sites to the sites I list on is as much to help promote St. Elsewhere sites as it is to promote my listings. I use the links to my own listings so that peeps are taken directly there. If I fly a banner, it's a referral banner. But that's just me.
Every site is going to have its own TOS, whether we agree with it or not. The choice is ours whether we want to LIST there or not---it shouldn't be whether to list there and BREAK the TOS because we don't like it.
Moving away from eBay is difficult enough IMHO, without tearing down the few alternatives we do have.
