The main reason I did not stay to sell on eBay was because they REQUIRE that you accept credit cards if you want to be paid through PAYPAL. Based on my situation...it's rediculous!! I sold a total of maybe 5-10 things on eBay, that at best got me $20!! So for me to be paying PAYPAL credit card fees was, in my opinion, stupid. They even pulled the 1 auction I had because in my payment info I stated that at this time I will only accept bank transfers. If I was a full line store with consistant sales...I would have NO problem accepting the CC's, but when I am just starting and have just an item or 2, it's silly. PLUS, I think it's CRAZY that you not only get charged a fee for a CC transaction, you get charged for ALL transactions (including the bank transfers). Don't get me wrong I am not trying to avoid fees that many sellers have to pay, but I really think there needs to be a guidline of sorts. I mean charging me a fee for a $2.99 sale. :x Just my opinion! OK, now that I have vented a bit...here's my original thought. I just opened a store on eCrater, and sure enough right next to the PAYPAL logo is the whole list of CC's! Does this mean that it will be the same requirement as eBay? I have had a store on Wagglepop since July and I really liked that they simply had the PAYPAL logo WITHOUT the CC's. I was not required to accept credit cards if I didn't want to. My store at WP has 45 items, which just are not selling. Not sure why, but I was wondering what some thoughts were on the PAYPAL/CC thing? Do you think I will have to accept them if I want to use PAYPAL on eCrater?
THANKS everyone! :) |

If want to be serious about accepting Paypal its gonna cost you , be thankful don't have pay currency fee on top of it.
On eCrater might want to go with Googlecheckout , no fee's this year
Always can accept Moneybookers , can put it in text of your eCrater and its ok on eBay |

My 'take' on using Paypal for non-ebaY sites is that you can set your restrictions as you see fit for your business. If you desire to only except bank transfers or non-credit card Paypal payments, you may states that in your terms/conditions.
I do agree that the credit cards showing 'up' next to the paypal logo will potentially confuse your buyers. But - on many alternative sites, the seller does get to decide what forms of payment they will accept relative to using PP as a payment processing tool.
I do understand and have also seen other sellers suggest Paypal is only accepted if your purchase exceeds - $5 or $10 or $xx. |

| I think Paypal fees are really not bad for a small seller. Larger sellers of course would be better off with a merchant account. The problem with Paypal fees on Ebay, is that they are a “straw that breaks the camels back”. The Paypal fees are on top of Ebay seller fees which these days are “through the roof”. On eCrater, there are no listing fees or final value fees. The only possible fee is Paypal. So far, 80% of my orders on eCrater have been Paypal, but those that have sent me checks or money orders, are in effect, lowering my average fee per order. In addition, if you get a Paypal debit card, every time you use it as a credit card, you get 1.5% cash back. This further reduces the average fee per order. You also get paid interest on your balance, but this is not very much unless you have a high balance, which I do not. My trust of Paypal only goes so far. |

ECRATER.com ASSUMES you are a business. Therefore you have a business account. You can not advertise that you accept PayPal if you do not accept credit cards. You are automatically displaying the credit cards in the listing where it shows the payments accepted. t won't matter what your listing says, the buyer will believe you accept credit cards.
So don't use PayPal.
Use Google Checkout only --- it's free for you --- at least til the end of 2007. |

The nice thing about eCrater and Google Checkout it that of all the places that have GC set-up, eCrater seems to have the bestway and the most buyers that "get it" when it comes to using GC.
At most of the other places, even tho it's set-up, I have to manually send the buyer a GC invoice after the sale as they don't seem to understand how to just pay with GC.

Yes, GC is ONLY credit cards.
In theory you could get credit card chargebacks on a sale from GC, but GC actually VERIFIES the credit card before the sale rather than after the sale as PP does.
And for all of 07 at least GC isn't charging any fees. Even after they do, their fees are a bit lower than those at PP.
