Hello everyone ... Just wondering if I'm missing something here ... how can I pay using my Google Checkout account? Thanks!

BSIT - I've only done 2 transactions with GCO (as a buyer). The first was a merchant purchase where I used the $10 off. I just signed in, went shopping and it was like any other shopping cart.

The other was a smaller purchase from a seller. In this instance, I got an invoice. I think I read here (or some other place) that you can't just pay - like PP. You must have 'an invoice' first - either a shopping cart scenario or a manually generated invoice from a seller.

Does this make sense? It's still early for me - on my first cup of coffee... :)

Erin is correct. If you aren't buying thru a cart that is set-up with GC, you need to ask the seller to send you a GC invoice. IF the seller doesn't have a GC account already you will be out of luck.

Knappschiles is right...

As far as I know.....
There are only 2 ways to pay using Google Checkout:
Shopping Cart & Invoice received from seller.

If your seller does not use Google Checkout then you can't just send them money like you can on PP.

If anyone is familiar with how the Google Checkout process between the buyer and seller make the transaction, please advise. I have just gotten my first order with GC. My understanding is, I have to hit the charge button to authorize it, correct? (I did this). Next, do I have to wait for the funds to appear (it also looks like when I charge the buyers account, in a few days it will automatically be deposited in my banking account, right?) or because it was stated on GC that the buyer's authorization of the credit card that is being used was successful passing all risk checks, I can ship the item now? Basically I want to find out when I can safely ship the customer's item safely knowing that I have received the funds (too much Paypal engrained in my brain). Secondly, when I charge to the customer's card using the button, does that automatically deposit in my own bank account or do I have to do a separate transaction like when I make a deposit with Paypal? Thank you.

Once you hit that 'charge' button and it changes to 'ship', you are good to ship.

You don't have to do anything to 'get' the money as long as you already have a bank account verified with GC. In about 2 days the money will go to 'payout'. Depending on your bank, it may take another day or 2 for you to actually 'see' the money in your account. But that is on the bank's end.

Shipping before the money is 'actually' in your account is a bit different for PayPal users, but GC's 2 day payout is actually a lot better than most 'merchant accounts' that only 'payout' once or twice a month.

For Seerisch
When you receive a order you are emailed by Google Checkout (GC)
You can then go into your GC account and charge the buyers card.
There is a setting to automatically charge the card when you get a order.
Mine is set this way. There is NO way a item I sell will not be in stock.
When you charge the buyers card it will show on the right hand side.
Once the buyer's card has been successfully charged you are safe to ship.

This is what a successful transaction looks like:
Order history
May 10 12:15 PM Order shipped You shipped this order. Carrier: USPS. Tracking number: XXX 44721 XXX 0385 5574 XXX 8684 XX.
Safe to Ship Now
May 10 9:55 AM Order charged The customer's credit card was successfully charged for $90.00.
May 10 9:54 AM Charge initiated You initiated a charge of $90.00 to the customer's credit card.
May 10 9:54 AM Authorization successful The customer's credit card was authorized for $90.00, and passed all risk checks. (Expires May 17, 2007 9:54:48 AM CDT)
May 10 9:54 AM Order received You received a new order. Google has sent the customer an order confirmation email.

The very top line with the tracking number will only show up after you have manually entered the number.

This is what a unsuccessful transaction looks like:
Order history
May 10 1:28 AM Authorization failed The authorization of the customer's credit card failed. Google has sent an email instructing the customer to update their card. If they fail to provide a valid card within three days, this order will be automatically cancelled by Google.
May 10 1:28 AM Credit card update The customer has updated the credit card used for this order.
May 9 11:27 PM Authorization failed The authorization of the customer's credit card failed. Google has sent an email instructing the customer to update their card. If they fail to provide a valid card within three days, this order will be automatically cancelled by Google.
May 9 11:27 PM Order received You received a new order. Google has sent the customer an order confirmation email.

As for getting your money....
GC deposits the money into your checking account on file every 2 days.
The deposits are done on a 5 day business week. M-F
Sat & Sun do not count for deposits.
So you will not receive deposits on Sat or Sun as far as I know.
The sales I am paid for on Sat or Sun usually count towards the Monday sales and Wednesdays deposit.

What you are paid for on Monday will be automatically deposited to your account on Wed.
What you are paid for on Tuesday will be automatically deposited to your account on Thurs.

Hope that helps....

Thank you Lightingguy! That was very helpful going through the process step by step as it looks on the GC checkout page. It will also be useful for future users who have the same questions!
