Google has made its online payment service available to retailers in the UK.
Google Checkout allows online shoppers to enter their payment details once, then use their Google login to pay at all participating sites. It has been available in the US since last summer, but was launched in the UK on Friday.
"[It's] great news for retailers because shoppers will have a better experience when visiting their sites," said Google's senior product manager Jerry Dischler, who claimed that thousands of retailers and millions of shoppers had been using the service since its US launch.
Google Checkout also ties in closely with the firm's Adwords service, which lets businesses put short, targeted, text-based advertisements alongside Google users' search results. Although businesses do not have to be Adwords users to use Google Checkout, those who do will see a Checkout icon appear on their ads -- a feature that Google claims will attract shoppers who are seeking an "easy and trusted payment option".

This is really going to Help UK/US payments.
Paypal who have (Had) the monopoly will be well and truly damaged by this.(Ebay sellers already know how to get around the payment ban)
Nochex the largest UK payment processor will also have their arrogant noses bent out of shape…..how the mighty will fall
Overall this is a very good announcement for any UK seller

| It would be nice but Google Needs to Iron out its Bugs to it's system Quick or they are going to slow their growth. |

It will be very popular in Canada where Paypal has been taking advantage of unfair currency conversion fee not even allowing Canucks to deposit USD funds into a Canadian USD
Due to population density and shipping in domestic realm , alot of Canadians depend on USA and Europe sales like no other country , so Paypal and eBay have been having a field day for years |

For UK sign-up Google are giving zero charges …..to 2008!!!!
This could be what Checkout needs; to get the system running correctly…US & UK feedback with 2 teams troubleshooting the bugs

A few big UK retail players have already signed up to the system |

the buzz is that people are bit shocked Canada was not included in latest release for testing.
Things rolled out in USA , usually are them tested out in Canada before jumping the pond.
Oh well so much for "Free Trade"
I hope its hear before June |
