Google launches PayPal rival in UK

Internet giant Google today launched a UK verison of its Checkout payment system, which aims to simplify online shopping and offer a rival to eBay's PayPal.
The system, which launched in the United States last year, allows customers to use one Google login to pay for products on any participating online retailer.
It retains the customer's contact, payment and shipping details, meaning they do not need to be entered every time a purchase is made.
The system could also boost Google's search advertising business as it works with its search ad programme, AdWords, allowing advertisers to process all or a portion of the transaction for free.
According to data from the Internet Advertising Bureau, online ad spending grew more than 41% in Britain in 2006 to break the £2bn ($4bn) barrier, taking its market share to 11.4% and nearly double the global average of 5.8%.
Google said 'thousands of online retailers andms of shoppers' had used Checkout in the United States, without giving any specific details.

Ja Googlecheckout will become an overnight no brainer for international sellers.
I'm ready to sign-up as soon as it hits Canada , it will be excellent for my site !
I already use Moneybookers
I have to use Paypal on various sites due to client demand
But for my main site Googlecheckout would be the ideal choice , I'm glad they are going in international so soon |
