|
|
I recently opened a google checkout account. I decided to register as a seller on ecrater.com, which is integrated with google checkout, so all should be well, right?
I also have a website/shopping cart. My shopping cart is NOT integrated with google checkout. However, there is a mod available so I can use google checkout.
Here is my question - when you set up google checkout to accept payments, it asks for a url so it can communicate. Not a problem if you're only accepting google payments at, say, ecrater, but what if I want to accept at mulitple places? i didn't see a place to add more urls, so how is this possible? I have to believe you can have one google checkout acct and accept payments on numerous sites, but how? I pored through google's help documents to no avail.
Thanks everyone for any insight. |

I believe you have to set up for Google on your own website.
If you have a module for Google Checkout it should allow you to set it up from your end.
I have my web page hosted at PSU, and use VirtueMart. All I needed was my Google vendor ID and Google merchant key.
The API callback URL should either be something you can enter or already be programmed into the module. |

From reading this post

It looks like you might have to make two google checkout accounts. |

Again, I have my own website, and a shopping cart, which existed before there was a google checkout, hence it's not integrated with Google Checkout (as virtuamart or ecrater are). Also as I said, there seems to be only ONE field for the callback URL, so if I have google checkout through ecrater, what do I do?
In other words, do I have to have a separate google checkout account for each and every site where I list my products? If so, that's ridiculous. |

Wow, that is extraordinarily moronic. No wonder they can't begin to compete with paypal.
Thanks for looking up that info for me. |

This seems to be the operative phrase:
Quote: › docWrite("quote")so if you
are using different platforms that use level 2 integration to sell, the best
way is to create a different account per platform.
So...just for grins, I went through and submitted a question through my account. I have my own store and asked whether I "would just use my same merchant id and merchant key" to point my eCrater store (which I don't have) to my GC account.
Since they are BOTH level 2 integration, I'm going to bet that the answer will be to open another gc account. Awkward? Yes. I bet google changes their minds down the road, too.

| That seems so obvious to me that I can't quite understand why some developer didn't bring it up before it went public. Wow. |

I'm not sure if what I have is the same level 2 cart type thing you guys are talking about or not.
I originally had the eCrater GC and Blujay GC. Those 2 are both a bit different so it was OK. Then in Jan, I set up a Mal's Cart GC for my web site. Mal's does have a callback, but it's set-up at Mal's not at Google. So I don't know if Mal's is level 2 or not, but all 3 of the sites work OK (most of the time), all off the 1 account.
The other thing is tho, that some people DO want to keep different site's sales seperate so they can easily see how sales are. There is nothing in Google that I know about that says you can't have more than 1 account.
In fact if you have more than 1 Gmail account, (I have 4 Gmails and my GC account isn't on any of them) you already have more than 1 basic Google account. You would just have to add the Checkout part to any account you have.

The choice to keep separate google checkout accounts is fine, it's the idea that you're forced to do so if you want to offer it on multiple sites that I have a problem with. |

I understand and I personally don't keep my stuff seperate. I have 3 GC carts -- my web site, eCrater and Blujay -- and they all go to the same Google account.

From the sound of it, it should be possible then to set up the ecrater store by entering the merchant id & merchant key without having to use the callback at the google side? Same at blujay? (seems like that's how I set up at blujay, but i haven't tried it out yet)
That would keep it all going to the same gc account. make sense?

Sylvia,
Yes it does make sense.
But for me, I had the eC and BJ carts set-up BEFORE I did my web site cart.
It's possible that Mal's cart isn't level 2 integration. I don't know. All I know is that I entered the callback URL for my web site on something at Mal's not at GC. I guess that's why it worked out.

i agree it's a PITA, since i use 2 different userIDs. so i signed up using my ebay userID, which is prolly the one i'll be invoicing buyers under. (since most of my stuff sells there.)

After my previous post I checked Google Checkout on my web page and found that it was not working. All this time I thought it was working.
I opened a second GC account and yesterday after my banking informatin was confirmed I set it up on my web page.
It works fine.
Obviously I did need two accounts after all. |
