Google Checkout: Gaining momentum, but big retailers wary
Google Checkout is gaining among e-commerce Web sites, but the largest retailers remain wary because they fear sharing data with Google, according to a survey by Cowen & Co.
Cowen surveyed the top 200 e-commerce Web sites and found that alternative payment platforms are catching on. Among the top e-commerce sites, Bill Me Later commanded 28 percent market share with PayPal and Google Checkout representing 26 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

Sharing your private info with Google is a bad idea... I simply emailed them with a question in regards to GC and they've posted my private email in their search results... oh just gotta' love it!
I've been spammed half to death, due to bots roaming the web now and I've emailed Google twice, receiving zero response...
Deja vu... about 3-4 years ago I found an archived Google page with about 300 peoples private info, such as home address, phone number, email, credit card numbers w/exp date, including my own!
I emailed Google then to have it removed immediately and they said they'd do it on there next scheduled maintenence in 2-3 weeks... not good enough... so I emailed every single person on the page with the link to there CC #s, etc and google had it down within hours...
I refuse to give Google my SS# to sign up for GC for obvious reasons... they can't even stop themselves from posting my email addy, so I'm certainly not going to trust them with anything more vital.
I hate paypal, simply because they're owned by ebay, thus charge exhorbitant fees, but until google gets it together, I won't chance switching.
Be cautious when giving your private info to anyone, but especially google! |
