I've been using Paypal now for some time and I am satisfied with their services. I do, however, want to keep an open mind and find a few alternatives. Any suggestions?

there are a limited number of payment processing providers who integrate with ebay for accepting payments, you might also want to check the ebay forums to see if there's discussion or reccomendations.

I use a merchant account for my website, but if you're talking about selling on eBay, it's my opinion Paypal is the way to go. It's owned by eBay, so of course they make it easy to use, and yes, the fees are high, but on the other hand, it's very easy for the customer and there's built in protection for the customer (much more than for the seller!).

I've read about people having problems with Paypal and so far, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I haven't had a problem with them yet as a buyer or a seller.

I know of a company called 2CO. Their website address is www.2co.com

They accept credit cards and other things. Its a very reputable payment processing company and I have seen lot of known merchants using their services.

Try them out!

5.5% may be high, but no gateway fees, no terminal fees, no maintenance fees, no monthly fees, one time setup fee $49.00....

You got a point.

But I did look at my total cost with all fees, not just the discounts, included and it adds up to 3.9526%.

I've used Google Checkout for 6 months or more and am very happy with it. They have just said they will remain free until Feb. (originally they were to end the free period the end of this year).

A couple of these were mentioned while others were not:

BTW, I'm going to move this OP over ot the "online payment sites" thread to where it's easier for posters to locate this discussion :)
