I thought I would mention that paypal has raised there fees in a hidden way without any fanfare......

When you refund money back to a customer (I did this yesterday) it now takes the transaction fees from the sellers account.

I noticed the screen had changed slightly on paypal as I occassionally refund customers payments if I sold out of an item, shorted inventory, or for some other circumstance.

It used to be if a customer sent you $10 via paypal you could click refund and the buyer would get his $10 back with no fees for the seller, but now they are billing the sellers account for the transaction fee.

The buyer will get his full $10, but the seller will pay additional monies to send it back electronically through paypal. I guess paypal is losing an extra million a year and wants to plug the leaky faucet!

I don't know about any new ebay fee reduction, as it does not look promising to me? The rich get richer. (greedier) lol..

As a sidelight....I've read on these boards many times that selling slows down around holidays, especially xmas and such. That is completely UNTRUE, anytime alot of poeple have ALOT of freetime on they're hands they browse the internet and shop MORE.

I like when the ebay listings fall to 8-9 million, I get seen better and selling picks up whenever poeple have freetime with nothing to do. It seems logical that sales would not happen xmas day, and most poeple do believe it, but that has not been my experience at all.

Don't unplug your sales at the perfect time!!

When did you do this??

I did a partial refund just before leaving on vacation 2 weeks ago and it calculated the fee I had paid on the amount and deducted that and then sent the total I specified.

I need to do another partial when I get an order together so I will be able to see if it's changed in the last 2 weeks.

Thanks for the heads up so I will watch for this.

Ack I hope this was just a glitch. I still use paypal unfortunately. Now with Bidpay in the trash can yet again and Google charging fees soon, viable alternatives to the greedy giant are dwindling.

It makes me wonder if I'm better off just selling on CL for cash.

Well even with fees, Google is a better deal than PP. And we have at least 1 more month of free at Google.

OK, I had to do a partial refund of .79. PayPal took .76 out of my account and added .03 as the fee I had paid on it to make .79 as the refund.

So nothing has changed as far as I can see. No hidden fee increase that I can see.

Just thought I would bring this back to the front of the heap as it looks like PP did change something within just the last few days.

Last week I had 3 orders come thru Blujay where PP added more shipping to the Blujay invoice. I'm not sure if that's a PP or BJ problem.

On 1 order the customer actually wanted a second pack of 1 of the items she bought and the overcharge made it perfect.

On the second order, it was a large order and PP added $10 more shipping to what had been a correct invoice. I did a partial refund and like usual PP refunded me a partial on my fees. That was on 1/31.

Now today I just processed the final of the PP overcharged orders. I needed to refund 2.50 BUT this time PP DID NOT give me back any of the fees they had charged on the extra. Maybe 2/1 was a change. If so it isn't in that last policy change as far as I could see.

PP not only screwed up the original bill, I got the priviledge of paying extra for it. Sure it's only pennies, but it's the whole principle of it. And how many millions of others have had the same thing happen ??!!

BTW, after getting those 3 orders I promptly took PP out of my payment options at Blujay. It's still in my listings as I didn't edit that, but I did take out my check mark and addy on the PP part of my store set-up.

Update,

I did put in a question to PP about why I didn't get my fee back as on their page it does say you will get partial fees refunded. That was on Monday and so far I havn't heard back anything, not even a wrong stupid automated response.

Wes,

Unless it's just a temp glitch, YES, it will affect anyone that has to do a partial refund.

I don't know if it would be the same if you do a full refund. I would hope not.

I checked my account about an hour ago and they have not credited me for the partial fee.

I'm liking RM more and more. They do the same thing PP does without the fees and they are backed by a real bank....not something like Ebay. I'm just waiting for PP to mess with my account!

I'm sorry, CrystalStar.... what is RM? I read all this avidly, since I have to give out a lot of shipping refunds, as my buyers don't wait for the invoice to combine shipping before they pay me...

Jeez, I can only lose so much money, before I throw the towel in.
thanks, barb
