Here is the BIG news this weekend. I have managed to get an accurate count for all the listing for onlineauction and added them to the auction site count. In the past we had a problem getting accurate readings because they included dutch/penny over auctions in their count.
for example
Web Sculpture & Carvings
OLA has the count under the main Art category as 1,132 for the auction site count we would only count this as 18 because there is only 18 auction listings even though there is 1,132 total qty available.
Bath & Spa Items OLA counts 14,076 Auction site count 167
We have had TONS of request from members and OLA to include their site to the auction site count and I am happy to announce that we finally did it.

Hmmmm..... 234,000 is a far cry from that 10 million figure that's been
tossed around of late.
Now that OLA is back on the auction site count, I wonder how long it will
be before some of the OLA members are carping about how that's not a
fair count -- that their numbers are really much higher.
After all, no good deed goes unpunished  |

Ahaaaaaaa! So this is the big news about OLA that I was sworn to keep secret...And that's not easy for this Cat
I see what you mean GAELICTITCA about the "little difference" in the overall AC. I'm wondering if they're using that calculator I sold way back when
Thanks for the update on the OLA.com auction count psunite! |

Yeah, a calculator that shifts the decimal place and multiplies by a
random number.......lol
Probably the same calculator eBay will be using to figure seller's fees
here shortly. |

| How does ebay's listings work here? Are the 13 million a true count or are those also including dutch auctions etc etc? I am curious as to whether OLA is really as close to ebay as they claim.. |

ebaY and all other sites 'counted' here are stated in LISTINGS not quantity available.
I clarified this also in another thread that is going south, and will go further south as the OLA members dispute the numbers.
This happens every time they're added to the list here; they'd prefer the whole industry 'change' to meet their needs.
No - they are not close to ebaY at all. I suspect if someone extrapolated out ebaY's numbers, and announced it as listings to wall street - the stock might go up a dime - eh?  |

OLA members... Its PSU's Auction site count. He set the rules. This is the way it is.
He doesn't count store only items at the other sites, he doesn't count dutch items at the other sites. He counts Auction and Fixed Price listings... NOT ITEMS.
So why should OLA be treated differently from any other site on this board? |

I am on OLA onlineauction.com and I agree about the item counts. I think as of today it is more in the 400,000 range of listings but not the 12 million it says. In any case I joined OLA as a founding member and asked for 3 new categories and they created them in 24 hours. Customer service is awesome. I also know a few new things from talking to the business director today that will be happening on the site within the next 30 - 45 days that will probably double or triple the LISTING counts not items count. So far OLA is the best site I have found to compete with ebay down the road in my opinion. It's not all just electronics or books however they do have alot of trading cards BLAH
Just my 2 cents.

Hi,
I list on OLA as well, also on Plunderhere, eBid, ePier, blujay, have my own site, and working on another one here on PSU.
I have to agree that OLA has different rules, but heck we all do. I like that. If this is working that is great. I have posted over there, about how I wish they would list both counts and separate auctions, but alas, that is not to be.
But I would also like to point out that on eBay, some listers, individually list the same item a dozen times. I think that is an attempt to monopolize the page of a viewer during a search. An on eBid, they have the rule that you can only list an item once. If you have more than one, put that in the listing.
So, everysite has a slightly different bias, and not anyone count is the same as anothers site.
Now - what I would like to see are the traffic numbers. That would let me know how many potential customers are passing by.
Just my thoughts- enjoy then toss.... |

stock-flyer - great point! Not an easy answer tho. Some of the sites also count each time we (the seller) views the page, so the 'visits' are not an easy capture....
I'd love to see STR across the board!! :D :D |

Also take into account that ebays numbers now include ebay UK and a few days ago they did a test that brought over 2 million listings from shop.com or one of the other sites they own. it looked great to stock holders until ebay got caught then they all got removed and a post said it was them testing the system..
On the ola forums there was a link to a lister that was an ebay employee who had something like thousands of items listed for bids. How does 1 person list thousands of items while working for ebay? hmmm
As to counts OLA is increasing every day. The numbers are different because OLA counts Items listed not listings created. listings created is more accurate butin any case I have tried 4 sites so far other than FEEBAY and like OLA.com the best and think it has the most potential if they can get the google search showing the items there. Maybe the new servers which will be coming online this month will help iron out a few issues on OLA and away it will go.
Well I am going back to work just wanted to drop in. I think my opinion is bias cause I feel OLA is more a community and real auction than anywhere else. But keep looking all the sites are Growing. Only problem is once one of them takes off we all need to get behind it to give it the boost it needs to be real competition. Hence the name Powersellers UNITE well until we all unite on one site we are still 2 steps behind the giant. |
