|
Hi All,
I collect midcentury china, vases and other collectibles. I found an ad for someone selling Eva Zeisel in Baltimore. I live near by in Washington, DC so I sent them an email and was surprised to receive an auto-reply.
Here is the CL ad:
EVA ZEISEL Schramberg SMF Spritzdekor BAUHAUS Mondrian - ESTATE SALE--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: sale-567872883@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-02-08, 11:08PM EST
Getting married (finally!) and starting new. Dozens available. New and slightly used.
- Vintage Imperial Germany HP Purple Violets Plate
- Antique Derby Porcelain Queen's Pattern #1955114
- 2823: Continental Blue Enamel Decorated Porcelain Figur * and more. Lots more!
Save big. Save 40-45% - why pay retail? Reply for more info, picutures and prices and I will respond promptly

I wasn't even expecting a response because if you notice the ad is quite old - almost 1 month. Yet somehow the link still works.
Now here is the reply email I received:"Porcelain Plates" <proj024> Add Mobile Alert

Now if you click on those links you'll discover hundreds of items for sale on Ebay. Yet all from different sellers. None that I could find are even in Baltimore.
I find it very dishones of these sellers to advertise as they have. I've never come across anything like this before. I'm curious what others think and if anyone else has ever encountered something like this? |

Those folks are posting ads on CL so they can send the people who respond to them emails with their eBay partner (e.g. affiliate) codes embedded in the links. Anything purchased within 7 days of that cookie being dropped will result in a commission to the affiliate. If someone who doesn't have an eBay account signs up through their link, they get an additional commission.
And here you were all wondering why eBay fees are going up? :!: They are paying for eyeballs.

Everybody already knows who ebay is..true, but ebay wants to make sure they pull their defectors back in, and away from craigslist, at least for the time being, until they find "better" sellers for their online retail mall.Ebay wants to have control of their ex-sellers! |
