Hi PRG,
The original owners name is Ed Orlando. He had good plans for BV, but gave up, then got sucked into Gerald Parkers investment scheme. Ed was still around after uBid bought BV. From what I understand uBid bought the security technology that Parker had put in place, but not the site itself, so Ed was "managing" (I use the term loosely) BV until he disappeared after a while, at which time uBid stopped passing the buck.
About the time Yahoo closed shop uBid closed the boards, and removed the BV banner they'd been displaying at uBid. They wanted Yahoo Sellers to come to uBid, not BV. There was a banner ad, I believe at auctionbytes, inviting Yahoo Sellers to uBid and they were displaying their own banner on the Home page of BV that led to a registration page at uBid.
Basically, BV and its Sellers have been wasted, used and abused by each owner with the exception of Ed Orlando's early years. He had a dream for BV, but he was a quitter, which some have said is a pattern in his life. |

Valued Members,
As many of you may already know, the Bidville.com website was purchased by uBid.com Holdings, Inc. on July 27th. We are thrilled that Bidville has the opportunity to benefit from the experience and resources that uBid has to offer.
It is our collective goal to expand and improve Bidville as quickly as possible. Our plan is to maintain Bidville as a separate entity from the uBid.com website. We will systematically improve Bidville’s technology, website, marketing efforts and Customer Service. Bidville will remain a place for consumer to consumer and small business auctions and storefronts.
It is important to us that the transition of ownership and management occurs as smoothly as possible without interrupting the daily operation of the website. We will do our best to communicate with the membership as much as possible. Your continued (and improved) success is vital to our success.
We welcome Bidville to the uBid family. Thanks for continuing to grow with us.
Robert Tomlinson
CEO, Ubid.com Holdings, Inc.
Ed Orlando, MD
Founder, Bidville.com

CHICAGO—January 8, 2008 – uBid.com, one of the leading business-toconsumer
and business-to-business online marketplaces in the U.S, announces
the promotion of Miguel Martinez, Jr. from VP, Finance to Chief Financial Officer.
In his new role as Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Martinez takes on an expanding set
of duties and responsibility for managing uBid's Risk, Reporting and Analysis
Center. Recently created in December 2007, the center serves to more strongly
tie uBid's departmental performance with their overall financial performance.

Ironic how both companies had major "changes" in same month and both want to go retail only and curb the auction venue. |

uBid refuses at this time to discuss the situation with BidVille. Additionally, they won't set a time after their Shareholder's Meeting to definitely discuss the subject.
I would venture a guess off hand that they are already in negotiations with a potential serious buyer and don't want to ruffle any feathers. Another guess would be that they are going to have a new go at making it successful; though doubtful. |

uBid Poised to Sell Bidville C2C Auction Site
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>"Asked if he would consider Bidville sellers if they were interested in running the auction site themselves, Hoffman said he would. "If people would be interested in having that discussion, [b]we're certainly here, easy to reach, and would be able to advise people on what we think the commitment would be to continue running the business."

Thanks for taking the time to investigate the above offer by U-Bid/Bidville mongoose.
An obvious misstatement on the part of BV Management. Imagine that!
It appears to me that Bidville is now one large billboard advertising U-Bid. Clicking on Bidville Inc. on the bottom of all pages, brings one to this "about us":

For the sake of the sellers who have remained dedicated to the site, I hope your speculations are correct. |

Oh, that's not new... that's all it's ever been since ubid acquired it. |

Remember their names folks. Memories are very long when it pertains to online auction sites. Every 6 months, mgt changes, stories and no CS, all lead to disaster for the customer.. do Not forget.
Wherever you go to sell, do Not forget the lessons learned.

I look at BV on the ASC List and the number of listings is rapidly plummeting. I guess I cant blame people to beat the rush to move.
While I would like to say "All BV Sellers" go join eCrater and bump them up to 2 million listings, I dont think that would be doing a favor to your community.
I have been reading posts on Kaqoo and what you guys might need is a niche site to migrate to (sorry to the non sports sellers). You have done well outside of the Big Bay together and you can continue to do well.
Kaqoo is free, you just need to come up with a domain name (there are many good ones available) related to sports auctions and be able to host a php probid site.
You will be networked with sell everything sites in terms of search. You still get 80 percent of the profits of the site while setting low fees you know your members would like. A couple of the biggest and most influential members of your community could have this site up and running within 2 weeks. It's a very good deal.
If I had known about Kaqoo last September I would have done my patch site through them. As it stands, I cant change horses at this point but for a new site, it's perfect. If there were a way to import all of the listings and data from Rscript to proBid I would jump at the chance. Here is an easy way for the majority of BV to move as a community to a site they design and own without many of the big headaches tha tcome from building a site from scratch. You can even pay homage to BV in choosing a title. VidBille.com is available if you dont want to use a sports moniker.
I asked some questions about Kaqoo with BV in mind and here was the reply. I doubt 1000 active sites being linked together but to even have a hundred small sites linked together through a single search is amazing.
1. it's free.
You split the fees 80/20 - you get the 80% - not to bad.
They have ads on the site, there not bad so if you want to run a free site that's fine with them.
2. You set the site fees
3. You need your own domain name and your server must run PHP.
If you don't want to start your own site you can list on one of the 1000 sites. Some of the sites are niche sites, some are not. |
