I personally use Godaddy. Never had a problem with domain registration with them. I have all my domains registered there.

Just don't buy anything else they offer you. You don't need it and they are bad about trying to "upsell."

| I second the godaddy advise & add whatever you do don't make it a private listing. It took me for ever to get mine reversed & I had to continue paying for the private listing to keep my domain up until they finally decided to accept my request for a cancellation of the private reg. |

| I have enjoyed using who.is lately, and they advertise name.com. I have seen a few people say bad things about GoDaddy, but I have seen many say good things, too. I think the GoDaddy problems *might* generally be if you try to move to a different domain service. |

Most of the complaints I hear about godaddy are from open source application users as these apps don't play well on godaddy servers (think Joomla).
Godaddy also charges too much for some things. They probably ought to stick with what they do best. LOL I've always had great service when I've called with questions about any of my domains.
I think all or most of my domains are registered private. Personal choice, really. Just wanted to keep personal info off that particular level. Honestly, I'm still wrestling with putting it on my own sites. duh... It's a difficult choice for me.

edited to ask: how do you all really feel about having home addresses and phone numbers on your sites? |

| I think I would like to see a choice in levels of privacy. I have a real problem with having NO information about the owner of a site. I would prefer a real name - an individual or an established, registered company, with a general location (at least the country and state/province/other subunit, and preferably the city) with a real contact email address for legitimate concerns (perhaps a filtering agency might be allowed). I really dislike the Who Owns This Place questions being allowed to be answered by no information at all. I would be less anxious to have a specific street address and phone number. If I have a real need for that info, I should hopefully be able to obtain it from public sources for a legitimate, established business. If the site is owned by an individual, that usually answers the question really being asked fairly completely. |
