Sure, it individualizes your listings search. See you can already have a feed thru any site but it is doubly effective on your own. Search my UserID just the way I have it here on Google and see how many listings come up? Then do a search with Brookite & my UserID and see what comes up: Main Site's linkage and my individual ones, which incidentally shows up pristine on Google Shopping, that gives me another free showing.

In my opinion, it doesn't just help - it's critical.

Make sure you do Google Base by upload of a database/spreadsheet file. Individually added items no longer show in Google Product search, but uploads do.

Oops, I just noticed your signature. Google doesn't like dropshippers in GoogleBase...

If you approach google product search as a buyer instead of a seller its almost unusable, and could be made much better with simple changes like adding categories.

Go to google and click 'shopping'. Let's search for an arbitrary item, a t23 laptop.

Search: t23
... 12,500 matches... sorted relevance first...

Let's try to narrow it: t23 lap*
... 6 matches.. I guess wild cards can't be used as part of a word..

Search: t23 laptop
.. 7,500 matches

Search: allintitle: t23 laptop
..680 matches, only includes those words in the titles, sorted by relevance..

Lets sort by cheapest, oops, we get mousepads, batteries, and all other kinds of peripheral spam we're not interested in

Fine, let's subtract those one by one

allintitle: t23 laptop -cord -battery
Oops, as soon as you made this new search it automatically sorted by relevance again, so continue subtracting the spam and resorting by price every time which is annoying

Finally you have:
allintitle: t23 laptop -cord -battery -mousepad -adapter -cable -power
Which took forever. And it turns out the cheapest laptop came from ebay anyway.. pff..

If all items were placed in specific categories, ala ebay, you could search a specific category thus eliminating lots of irrelevant spam. And not re-defaulting to 'relevant' sort would be nice..

And its really stupid that everything is 'buy it now' with no auctions anyway. I think 'auctions are on the way out' is a bogus meme created with an agenda of some sort. 1$ no reserve auctions give buyers the greatest potential to get the item cheapest, and obvious economics is buyers want the lowest price.

I don't know joker - I find myself researching items for price more on Google Shopping now than how I traditionally used eBay exclusively for this purpose.

With eBay's best match it's nearly impossible to find what you want without jumping through hoops. Even with their old match - as far as collectibles go - there's just not as many items showing up anymore to choose from.

Google Shopping could certainly improve and implement some more refinements.

Those kinds of refinements exist in base.google.com - the search there accesses the attribute tags the sellers apply to their items. Unfortunately, the sellers do not (for the most part) appear to understand what the attribute tags are for or how to use them consistently. Maybe when Google has collected enough data, they might be able to provide pre-established attributes for sellers to use; for example having sizes follow a consistent format, whether that be "small", "extra-large", "medium" or "S", "XL", "M" or "Sz9" or "size 9" or "J-9" or whatever - the letters used need to be the same from seller to seller for a filter using such terms to work. I have hopes that Google Base may develop into a real eBay alternative and my much-desired all-in-one search. But the attribute tags are a potentially powerful tool that cannot yet be used effectively.

I tried with some items a few months back.A bit of traffic and a bit of interest but I think I'll have to learn a bit more about feeds and attributes to get any better exposure and higher rankings.
Its probably more of a help that a real alternative to using your own web site.

from what i read on the iOffer club posts, Google Base is the one thing that gets them the traffic to their stores, so it should work.

if it doesn't work as well, i'm sure it helps! doesn't hurt to upload your items there.

Dear Sandy - could you please define "Electrincs" for me? It has been bugging me for many months now... When I suggested to you once that you correct it to "Electronics" there was no response, so now I am supposing that it is deliberate, and means something other than electronics to you.

The TIAS mall, where I have my store, uploads to Google Base regularly. It has been the main place where buyers find me.
Now, Google Base looks different, and is not showing pictures. When you enter a search, the name comes up, in a row of four per line, but no picture. After a long wait, a square box comes up with a red X in it. This is NOT helping sales.
My sales have been terribly slow lately! Partly this Depression we're in I guess, but this is not helping.

I am getting really discouraged.
