Personally, I think the whole argument being pursued as to where Obama was born to be rather meaningless.

Yes, IF it could have been proven that he was born in Kenya of a 18 year old American citizen as his paternal grandmother originally stated, he would not be a natural born US citizen. This would be true even if his mother was a US citizen as the law at that time stated that the US Citizen parent had to have lived continuously in the US for 5 years beyond their 14th birthday. Obama's mother was only 18 at the time of birth, so young Barack would not have received automatic US citizenship as a natural born -- his mother would have to file for citizenship upon return to the US. There's also the question of his adoption by an Indonesian stepfather and living in Indonesia for a few years before returning to Hawaii to live with his grandparents at the age of 10.

HOWEVER, with that little legal tidbit explained, let's realize that the man did win the presidency by receiving the majority of popular and electoral votes. Even if he couldn't provide the vault birth certificate (the official certificate signed and attested to by the delivering doctor and hospital; along with an infant foot print), how many years do you believe a fruitless legal battle would drag on? Meanwhile, until and if, it could be proven that he was ineligible for the office over a constitutional technicality (and I'm in no way diminishing the import of the constitution) he would be our de facto president fully operating in that capacity with full authority. Being somewhat familiar with the extended time legal battles can be stretched out over, it could easily last four to ten years.

I submit that it would be much more meaningful to turn our attention and prayers to how he governs while in office. Hopefully, it will be to the distinct and lasting benefit to our country. He's been lawfully elected (so far as we may ever know) and must be given a chance to either prove himself or fail.

If, after a "trial" period you feel he's doing okay and acting in the best overall interest of the country, fall behind and support his efforts. If after seeing some of his initiatives and programs either being implemented by Congress, or at least definitive detrimental proposals being made, the people have a constitutional remedy available to slow down and/or stop such actions -- in 2010 vote out the Democratic Party majorities in the Congress and replace them with either Republicans or independents who will shut down his legislative agenda and challenge any executive orders found to be detrimental to the overall benefit of the country.

There's one hell of a lot of euphoric jubilation over his election by many on one hand, and substantial skepticism and fear on the other hand. But nobody is going to be able to substantiate either emotion in a pragmatic manner until he has the chance to govern and present his true agenda.

It will be almost impossible for him to "lurch" toward socialism, if that's his true intent, in a fast and furious manner. While I'm sure that he will be revealing a left-of-center slant to his agenda, he, along with his majority left-of-center Congress will have to tread slow and gently in order to avoid creating a voter revolt and have the legislature turned over to the Republicans in the 2010 elections.

And that's a very real possibility as the last two presidents can attest. Clinton took office in 1992 with a strong Democrat majority in both houses. The Democrats moved too hard and fast taking advantage of it and in 1994 the voters turned the Congress over to Republican control. Bush had a strong Republican controlled Congress in 2004 and in 2006 the voters changed that by installing the Democrats in control of both houses.

Chill out folks, on both sides, the journey has just began...

Bush was given a chance... hence is why we are where we are. And I think that 8 years was more then enough for this country.

witchywoman12 wrote (View Post): › docWrite("quote")As far as origin of birth, I have already agreed to the notion that in all reality I don't think anybody cares where he was born. Yes, I saw the Hawaiian birth certificate too. That does not change the fact that there is a very real chance he was born in Kenya.

And this is only in question because of who/what he is. It would never have come into play had he been white, IMO. And as I already provided the links for... even if he was, I provided the links to prove that would not even matter, as his mother was a Legal US citizen... hmm, right, forgot, she was not a LEGAL adult!

witchywoman12 wrote (View Post): › docWrite("quote")His mother was not a legal adult

   Now. that gave me a good laugh! "Legal" adult? Does that make her any less his mother? Any less an American Citizen?

Its exactly this kind of thinking that distorts and misleads.

If this guys characheter doesn't bother you, why are you giving me crap about it? I have not filed a lawsuit against him. It's not my job to prove who and what he is to anyone. I know enough for my own satisfaction. I didn't vote for him, and refuse to support him.

Yes McCain has been asked for his birth certificate. As I have said more than once now, this is not about skin color.

IMHO, you all sound like a bunch of immature whining spoiled children who are upset because you lost. Get real folks. What I also read is racism. He won. Now grow up and learn to deal with that fact. We are in a very bad time of our history, yet we are in a very historical moment too. We need to give Obama a chance. Stop condemning before he has even had a chance to begin. After the mess that Bush has left us in after 8 years, I am more then ready to give him a chance.
And for all those that like to spread mis~information.... Whether or not he was born in this country in no way makes him a NON AMERICAN CITIZEN. It has been long known, and taught in schools (as far back as the 70's) that children born to AMERICAN mothers AUTOMATICALLY are CITIZENS of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. So for all those that like to spread fear, hate and whatever else.... Here is the supporting law that dictates Obama's citizenship, not that this should be an issue, as he was born in Hawaii ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama ) , and last that I knew, that is a STATE of these UNITED States.

(2) A child born out of wedlock in a foreign country to an American citizen mother and an alien father or U.S. Citizen father gains U.S. citizenship at birth if the mother had been physically present in the United States for a continuous period of 1 year prior to the child's birth. (See 8 U.S.C. 1409(c).) The child will gain the citizenship of the father only if the laws of the nation of which the father is a citizen so provide.

(Don't believe me? Here's the link.. http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2008/julqtr/32cfr584.5.htm)

And another one...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthright_citizenship_in_the_United_States_of_America

A couple of days before the elections, news media reported that Obama's birth certificate had been reviewed and announced that he was born in Hawaii. I understand why the doubts persist, documents can be forged. I possessed more than 1 ID that got me into adult establishments before I was 21 y/o. It doesn't help that Obama fought tooth and nail to keep his birth certificate under wraps.

The "where" of Obama's birth can be confirmed by his Mothers physical location on the day of his birth. Her Passport Records are on file can can be accessed by court order.

In addition, according to Wikipedia, was not born out of wedlock. The parents were wed in February 1961 and Obama was born in August 1961:

"Barack Obama was born at the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, Hawaii,[6] to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a Luo from Nyang’oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a white American from Wichita, Kansas[7] of mainly English, Irish and smaller amounts of German descent.[8][9][10] His parents met in 1960 while attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was a foreign student.[11][12] The couple married February 2, 1961;[13]"

Racism? I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but have not noted racism in anything that I have read. It is not racist to disagree. It's American.

And, BTW, I really, really hope everything is above board with regard to where Obama was born. If not, the legal ramifications will have a profound effect on this country.

Certified birth ceritificates issued by the state do not have the footprints. I have applied for at least 3. The only one that contained my footprints was the hospital certificate. I tried to use when my soon to be hubby and I applied for a marraige license, and it wasn't acceptable. That was in 1968.

edited to correct typo.

Hopefully, by the time 4 years roll around Obama will have gotten started on alternate sources of energy. As Governor Palin just pointed out in her interview with On The Record, an Obama Presidency will serve to more quickly move things forward in that area. When the Republicans return to majority in the Congress and Senate they will undo any damage done to our Country or Constitution.

I don't believe that everyone in our Government is corrupt. There are some Patriots who truly love America and what it has always stood for. Obama is offering many things, whether or not he's successful remains to be seen. For instance, it would be ignorant to suddenly impose huge taxes on a coal Industry that is working toward cleaner technology, but perhaps the threat will rush things along. I also think it's not very smart to completely stop all off-shore drilling. Why not continue what's already in place if it will ease the burden on the American people? Again, we will have to rely on the common sense that at least some of our Government must possess.

Don't forget to watch the final hour of Greta's interview with Governor Palin tomorrow night on Fox News!

Things are getting nasty and I think it is time that this thread gets locked. If you want facts I suggest you take a look at factcheck.org It is a "nonpartisan, nonprofit "consumer advocate" for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics"

Holiday season is coming up fast. We should get back to the core of this site and take care of our business.
