funny in reading info throughout the web about ecommerce venues, i keep seeing craigslist referred to as one. i never thought of it in that manner.

an example, an article about bonanzle reads as though craigslist is up there with fleabay in ecommerce venues:

"Bonanzle also has booths, which is their own version of an online store. In a way, it is like the storefronts you find on eBay and other alternatives; however it's a lot less work. You simply provide details on which site format you are most used to (eBay or Craigslist)"

thoughts??

As you can see by my signature, I don't consider CL one of my Alt venues. However, I make 80% of my income from CL at this time. JMO

CL works for some people / items and not well at all for others.

If you have bigger, bulky or heavy items that would cost more to ship that they sell for, CL would probably work well for your stuff.

If, like me, you sell small easy to ship stuff that you want country-wide exposure for, CL is hard to make work. Then you are better off with some of the alt sites mentioned here PLUS work on getting your own web site. Eventually your own site will be your best outlet, but it may take a while.

You are right knapp,
I move my larger Antiques and Collectibles on CL. I find selling Bulk or lots work well also.

I do lot deals on toys, comics, linens, marbles, pens, cheaper jewelry items. Things like that move well, because as they say, 'Sellers are also Buyers'. I just let them part it out and sell it seperately, not worth my time in most cases to sell one-ofs. JMO

For instance, you may already have a product as such, but a 'Country Garden in a Box' would do great on there. Offer a large variety of seeds to start a complete 'Healthy' garden all in one easy to order Box. Might even give them options of what to add to the Box. If that works well, then there is always 'City Garden in a Box' to extend the Product Line. :D

Not really as big of a fan as I used to be, but I still have good sales
on Craigslist.

More sales comming from my oodle.com listings since they started
appearing on myspace.com

I primarily sale DVDs and CDs. Walmart classifieds doesn't list
DVDs and CDs, but if you sell anything else, your oodle.com listings
show up on both Walmart and Myspace classifeds.

Still more sales from CL but oodle.com is quickly gaining ground.
Lots of hits and responses from my listings.

As far as the "alternative" sites (ecrater, blujay, bonanzle, etc.),
I've pretty much given up on mail order sales.

Even listing items at give away prices, people are still too reluctant
to buy.

I can understand why some people don't want to do local sales,
but for most sellers, I believe it is the only practical/profitable
alternative to eBay or Amazon.

I had steady sales for the first year of Yahoo Auctions.
All the hours/days spent listing on Bidville, Blujay, eCrater, etc
was wasted time. Little or no sales.
