OUTSTANDING NEWS!!

While no "systems" anywhere are foolproof, here is evidence of a site that is trying to do something about fraudulent sellers and SCAM BIDDERS!

Things are looking great over at the B!

Quote: › docWrite("quote")This is from their boards:

Valued Members,

It is no secret that Bidville has experienced significant ‘growing pains’ over the past year. Our technology has had difficulty keeping up with the influx of new members and increased activity levels. You might say that our marketing efforts have paid off too well.

Fortunately, over the last few weeks, we have successfully addressed most of the issues causing these problems. We have made many changes to the website and enabled many policy changes. Some members agree with them, and some don’t. Please realize we are doing our best to make Bidville more reliable and user friendly.

One issue that still needs to be discussed is the ‘missing auctions’ problem. In an effort to reconfigure our database, many items were removed from Bidville. To view the criteria we used when deciding which items to remove, please visit this link:

http://www.bidville.com/community/messages/thread.asp?thread=840517&forum=5

Many members believe that items were removed that did not meet these conditions. We have spent days looking into this possibility but can find no evidence that any extra items were removed. If they didn’t meet the conditions, they should still be available. If you still believe you are missing items, the best we can do is apologize. We have no explanation, and we certainly did not remove them on purpose. At this time, whatever auctions are available in your TrackPal are the ones we have on file for you. No more, no less. And, there is no way for us to provide any member with a list of auctions that were removed.

Now, the good news. Allow us to take this opportunity to inform the Community on what we have accomplished over the past few weeks and what will be completed soon. There are other projects on our ‘To Do List’ but these are considered the most critical.

1. Website Availability – over the past year, we have been plagued with “website timeout” and “website unavailable” errors. This has frustrated many member (and us). Fortunately, we have isolated many of the issues causing these. And, we have reconfigured and redesigned our database to better meet increasing demand. At the moment, the errors are virtually non-existent. Of course, we will need to monitor this situation closely and adapt as needed.

2. Billing and Invoicing System – ours is, admittedly, confusing. We are in the process of redesigning our billing system to be much more user friendly. It will have many options that are not available now, but important for sellers to have access to.

3. Checkout System – we believe it is paramount for our sellers to have a built-in Checkout system where buyers can instantly pay for Take It and Storefront items. Have no fear, the Bidville Express Checkout is on the way.

4. Seller Fraud – this is a problem with the internet in general. Bidvlle is very excited to say that we will soon be implementing innovative solutions to this problem. For details on what we have already done and on our new VIP Program, please visit this link:

http://www.bidville.com/help/vip_beta.asp

5. Buyer Fraud – another general internet problem. We are finding new and exciting solutions to this as well. For information on our upcoming SAFE Program and other ways to protect yourself from buyer fraud, please visit this link:

http://www.bidville.com/help/safe_beta.asp

6. Other Items – in addition, we are working on the following: Seller invoicing, Multiple feedback posting, Froogle, Post seller a question, and new Terms of Service, FAQ’s, Glossary and Prohibited Items pages.

Please bear with us through these times of change. We expect to have a few glitches along the way.

Thanks for continuing to grow with us.

They must be finally making good use of all that free money they received to compete with ebay.

Yes, these are pretty exciting times at Bidville. Many improvements have already been made and more are coming. They announced the upcoming express checkout system is in the works, too.

bidville needs to concentrate on advertising and getting hooked into search engines.
there are no views, or hits.
the public is unaware that this site even exists. nobody has heard of them. this clearly demonstrates the power of advertising, and, being hooked into the search engines.
items i list on ioffer appear on search engines within 24 hours. (as a side note...or should i say side joke... as we all know, ebay has used every word in the dictionary as far as search engines go, but.... did you ever click on one of them? 99% take you "THE PAGE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR CAN NOT BE FOUND". in that department, i would say ebay has a monopoly on nothing but junking up the search engines!)

i moved to ioffer when bidville was having problems, i imported the auctions i had at bidville to ioffer.
i still left them up at bidville as well.
the same items on ioffer have many hits / views. the same items at bidville have NONE...NADA...ZIP !!!!
I am getting nothing at bidville.
it's a well put together site, and should be able to give ebay a run for the money, but....less than zero traffic.
if i see traffic, or at least some views / hits, i will resume listing there. TIME IS MONEY. the way it stands now, ioffer gets my devotion.
i am getting hits, and sales at ioffer.

Well, different strokes for different folks. I get hits & I get sales. Just had one a month ago before I let my listings run out.

Personally, I would have been embarrassed if they advertised the site the way it was. What good would it have done? Comparing how it works now with improvements & repairs and more improvements coming...with what it was...well, I can wait a little longer for the advertising. They are making the improvements now that they should have had long ago. NOW they will be better able to compete.

A few more things fixed up & changed & they'll be ready for advertising.

Besides, I don't sit around & wait for someone to do MY work for me. I promote my own things, thank you.

i don't sit around either, but, if i am going to put time into listing on a site, they should be promotoing their site.
if no one knows about it, and items don't show up in search engines, it's a waste of time for all concerned.
it is their site, it is up to them to promote the site. as sellers, we give them a product to promote.
without sellers / product, they have nothing to promote.
without sales ...which come from promotion, we have no sales... they have no commissions.
it is their job to promote the site, not ours. that is why we go to them to sell.
that is the service they provide, and what attracts us, as sellers to the site.
what attracts buyers is a site with a variety of items that they are looking for. online shoppers go to the web. they find the items through search engines. if a site isn't well connected to the search engines, the items don't come up.
bidville isn't well connected to search engines. bidville doesn't advertise. hardly anyone knows about it.
ioffer is well connected, and they do advertise.
ebay got to where they are by advertising, and by being hooked into the search engines. they did their job. they promoted their site. that is what listing fees and commissions pay for.
bidville is not doing their job. yes, now... possibly to late, they are trying to salvage what was an excellent player in the field, they are making repairs, but if ther is no trafiic... it's a waste of effort. the horse has left th barn, ... the farm... and probably the county. if they repair everything, and get the slickest, best, easiest site on the planet, and no one knows about it, and search engines don't pull up product,, what good is it?
all of this is 2 things. common sense, and business sense. GO WHERE THE MONEY IS!!!
Remember the first three rules of real estate: 1) location. 2) location. 3) location. anything, and everything else is secondary. you can be selling $100. bills for a penny. if no one knows about it...how many will you sell?

I partly agree. But they are first of all my items...not the site's. I am the owner of my business, not the site. And I am responsible for my business, not the site.

Quote: › docWrite("quote")it is their site, it is up to them to promote the site. as sellers, we give them a product to promote

"As sellers, we USE the venue to promote OUR products." would be more accurate, IMO.

Quote: › docWrite("quote")it is their job to promote the site, not ours.

"It is their job to KEEP THE SITE RUNNING, PAY THE BILLS, ETC...AND promote the SITE." would be more accurate, IMO. I pay listing & FVF--RENT, if you will. I am renting the resources of the venue. The site really should promote itself, I agree. That's PART of what attracts traffic. But I'm responsible for my own business. An example, the brick and mortar mall isn't responsible for advertising Angelsolutions Boutique. I am.

 LOL...I remember it differently. I was there.

Quote: › docWrite("quote")that is what listing fees and commissions pay for.

You are entitled to your opinion, sir. And I to mine. Good luck at Ioffer. I had the opposite experience from you. And I won't count the $3 offer I got for $28 worth of merchandise & they wanted shipping included. Oh Yea, LOTS more traffic at Ioffer, has netted me 2 sales--one of which was cancelled.

Best wishes & God Bless,
sylvia

Off topic a bit but I think our site Abidders.com has better results then both bidville and ioffer when it comes to items in the search engines.

Even if you try a search for any item listed on our site with a similar name to something on ioffer you will find our listings on the first page if not first!

Here is just a simple search for glass

Google search for glass

Google search glass ebay.ca

Google search glass yahoo auctions

I'm not trying to take any of the greatness away from either site just trying to support your comments about getting into the search engines. We have only been up for just over a month and have great results at Abidders.com and within 24 hours your items should also be indexed in Google MSN Yahoo.

Chris

Actually, abidders, ioffer has the top spots on those links. Also, I'm sorry, and I don't mean to be combatitive, but I can't help noticing that your ads on there are probably only getting top spots because you're using ebay, yahoo, ioffer and others as keywords. Isn't that key-word spamming? When it has nothing to do with what is actually on your site?? I'm not sure if that is the way to go............... :?

You are correct on those links ioffer does have the top spots, however I did not state that I had the top spots in regards to those particular links.

I said... Quote: › docWrite("quote")Even if you try a search for any item listed on our site with a similar name to something on ioffer you will find our listings on the first page if not first! Basically I mean that you will find us in number 1 position either on Google MSN or Yahoo alot! When I did the glass query it was simply a word off the top of my head!

As for keyword spamming if it was I would be penalized by it in the search engines! Those keywords have much to do with my site in a comparison view point as well as description as to what type of site we are and what we do.

Alternative to Ebay search Google

Alternative to Ebay search MSN

Free online auction search google

I could find some that come in first but I think the main point is this site comes within the first on a fair amount of keywords! as well as second! Anyways Like I said I am not trying to take anything away from either of the other sites mentioned, just sort of supporting the lack of bidville listings in the search engines, that was mentioned!

Excuse my typos it's 4:30 am and time for bed!

By the way I think we all have wonderful sites in one aspect or another. We are all after the same goal and that is to provide the seller and the buyer an alternative to ebay!

My site seems to be growing well, and I feel as though people appreciate what I'm doing for them, as I do appreciate them using my site!

Ok eyes half closed now and rolling back into my head.. Good Night!

Am I the only one that reads or listens to the news. All this happened about one or two years ago. I don't remember for sure where they received the money from but they were supposed to use it to advertise and compete with ebay. I saw all the ads on yahoo's front page and other places for quite a while. I guess nothing ever came of this. Bidville is still just as dead as it was before all this money was given to them.
