Creating or joining Google/Yahoo Groups can add to your local sales.
If you create a group for Classifieds in your city/town its virtually
guaranteed that your group and listings will show up on the first
page of the search results.
Any search for "Nevada Classifieds", "Reno Classifieds", etc. on
Google Groups pulls up my group with all my listings.
Its like having a storefront for local sales.
An easy way to add to your CL sales and generate repeat sales
with local buyers.
If you have any doubts....check out the 11,000+ freecycle groups
and 2,500+ classified groups on Yahoo Groups. |

elgato/lazy; While my mail order sales dwindled to nothing, groups
have boosted my local sales.
Create a group for DVDs , CDs, Books, etc. and your group will
be buried in the search results.
Create a group for Classifieds in your city/town and your group
will show up on the first page of the search results.
I created a Yahoo Group for Reno Classifieds and it was showing
up on the first page within 5 minutes.
CL is obviously the #1 site, but has too many restrictions for full
time sellers.
I'm still looking for more sites to advertise local sales. If anyone
has any ideas...please post.
Currently listing on CL, oodle.com, Google Groups, Yahoo Groups
No results from the other classified sites, so I quit listing. |

I'm not sure if all the start up classified sites can compete with
groups for traffic.
I noticed MSN is giving up on their classified listings (MSN Expo).
Seeing the freecycle groups thrive on Yahoo Groups, I suggested
that Yahoo Auctions be converted to buy/sell categories on Yahoo Groups.
I guess Yahoo has their own priorities, but their last attempt with
Yahoo Auctions was free listings with sponsored ads. Same as
Yahoo Groups. Free groups with sponsored ads.
Whatever.....Local classifieds are more productive than mail order
sales on groups. You can browse groups by region and its easier
for buyers/sellers to find listings by searching for classifieds in
their city/town. |
