Hi people,

I have a basic ads site up and running www.a-shop.co.uk and am thinking of turning this into an auction site. Can anyone offer suggestions as to the best software to use and any tips to help me along the way.

Thanks one and all.

Dave

I've not quite arrived there yet, but I'm working with our software to move in that direction...

Oh please !!! That software is so glitchy it isn't funny.

Just ask any seller that's on any site that uses it. I'm currently on at least 2 of them and if it wasn't for the good people at theose sites I'd be gone in a flash.

Just about no one can get the "bulk lister" to work for them either.

Check out Rscript http://www.rscript.com/
I'm at 3 sites that use it and it works much better IMHO.

I do not have a copy of phpprobid myself but I was wondering if anyone could tell me, is bid.php still encrypted? I know phpprobid was originally based on PHPAuction (the old GPL version) but don't know how much of that remains in the newer versions (I hope none for legal and moral reasons),

I second Carol. I'm on a lot of sites that use PHP-Pro and, truly, if I didn't like the admin I would not be there. Two of the sites that are my favorites to list on -- one reason being that they use rscript -- are BNS and BidUpToday. While there is no Turbo-Lister-type bulk lister at these sites the software works particularly well with the "sell similar" function, so it's just as easy for me to copy-and-paste, and I don't have to re-do some of the HTML in templates like I do with PHP-Pro.

The bulk lister with PHP-Pro does work for me but I don't always use it because most sites that I'm on don't have every option in the bulk lister that is available if you list directly on the site, so there would be heavy editing involved anyway. One site is working to address this, but it's probably a lot of work.

Anyway, that is this seller's opinion, too, from a listing perspective.

I have no problems with phpprobid. Jim works out 99% of the glitches before he releases the upgrade live. Sometimes you have to have other people's style of use to find potential problems. Could the apparant glitches be customizable differences that the admin's choose to make themselves different from other sites using the same script?

I have no real complaints about our bulklister, but I don't list on other sites that would cause me to have to import a different file format. I did import and upload an ebay turbo lister into our bulk and onto the seller's page with absolutely no problems. But it was a small one, 50 items. When I wanted to convert my store only listings back to "both" site listings, it saved me alot of work of having to create new listings.

If you read our boards, they are not full of unsolved problems. When glitches are reported, they are fixed. Sometimes I have worked a couple hours attempting to replicate a reported glitch because the people reporting it couldn't remember what steps they took to incur the problem. I got it replicated and reported to Jim exactly where it occured and how and he had it fixed in seconds.

I do have a small complaint against the Phpprobid site itself, tho. Since I do live help at bid-alot, and we are featured at the phpprobid, I end up doing cs work for them, their potential customers think I am Live Help for Phpprobid also.

Something like this.. And remember, most of this is done in very broken english.

Customer: Hello, I want to buy this program.
Mo: You want to buy the software or the site?
Customer: I want to buy this software, I want to make a auction site.
Mo: You have to contact phpprobid.com for that.
Cust: How do I do that?
Mo: You have to go to phpprobid.com and follow the purchasing links.
Cust: How do I do that?
or
Cust: I want to read their boards.
Mo: You have to be a regestered user to use their boards.
Cust: Tell me how to buy this program.
Mo: go to phoprobid.com and click on Buy Now.

(Hey Phpprobid, I'll send you a bill for my services! LOL!)
