I have been accepting GCO for quite some time now with no problems. Over the past week I've had 3 customers with declined cards...I sure hope that's not a sign of bad times. I had a customer who is persistent in saying there is no reason his American Express card should be declined, he's emailed me multiple times and is even willing to send a check which I don't accept. Is there a contact phone number for GCO? I just thought I would check real quick, I have the support email addy but thought I would see if anyone had tried to contact them the old fashion way. lol I couldn't seem to find one, but it may be hidden much like the contact support button is hidden.

Thanks!

While I don't know why these cards may have been declined, I HAVE had the problem, twice (about 3 months apart), with Sprint saying my card was declined when I bought a new phone. Apparently there was a "zip code" problem. It was amusing because it was the same card they have on file and auto-bill each month with no difficulty. As they were unable to fix the problem, I asked they just bill the phone to my account, and they did so (each time). My bank also told me that they showed NO record of the inquiry in each case.

So... it's possible it's a database problem. Were I in your shoes, I would consider accepting the check, but with the explanation that you will need to wait for it to clear, and you are sorry, or maybe offer a PayPal invoice, or maybe take a USPS Money Order. My bank told me that I could submit a check to their bookkeeping dept and ask that they send it through and not deposit it until it actually cleared, if I wished.

Thanks PRG...this started yesterday! The gentleman contacted me again this morning insisting his card was valid and couldn't understand the problem. I just checked and his card has been approved! I know it's easy to put one wrong number in and pow you are declined. I think one of the other declined cards were stolen...bad email address included. Humm!

Thanks

My Discover Card just renewed its expiration date. I had to go update it at the sites I use it on. One transaction was declined until I changed that date.

i have been taking GC for about 2+ years for over 400 transactions. Until about 2 weeks ago I had had only 1 card declined and it was for out of date card.

But recently I had 2 or 3 declines for purchases at my site. I believe 1 was for date but the other 2 didn't respond to GC or me.

It's possible that they were stolen, tho they sure didn't try to charge anything large on my site. Just don't know.

Well luckily the card was authorized today and the item is already in the mail. I'm sure it was just a technical issue as the man was very persistent in making sure his order was processed. The other two I never heard from again. Oh well there's always tomorrow...this was just my first experience with declined cards and I was in a bit of a flurry since the buyer wanted me to try and "fix" it!

Yah, that's one thing about both GC and PP -- the buyers don't always understand that we don't see of have any control when it comes to the credit cards.

I occasionally have buyers email or call me about ordering something. They will be a bit miffed when I tell them that I can't do a credit card order on the phone. But then when I tell them that it's safer for them this way, that I don't see or have any access to their actual number, they understand and seem to like that part.

It's one of those "you're d..n'd if you do and d..n'd if you don't" situations.

But with all the CC fraud and identity theft out there, the safety line usually helps.
