|
|
I just had a sale through my eCrater store and the buyer used Google checkout.
When I went into Google to print the shipping/packing slip I noticed that the buyer was charged slaes tax. Buyer is from IN., and I'm in FL.
I checked my store sales tax setting, and it is set to 0.00, I checked the item, and tax it is set to "no". I then checked my Google setting for states to charge taxes to, and it was ok. This is the first time I have ever had this happen with a sale.
Is there something I missed?
Is it possible the buyer added this?
Or is this just a Google burp?
I will be refunding this to the buyer. |

love2shop - I don't have an answer for you, but am curious for you (and all)....so I'm bumping up with the hopes someone has an answer.
You might need to ask @ eCrater and/or Google too - that's just way too strange.... |

I suspect it has something to do with Google. I'm in PA and all my PA customers get charged sales tax even though most of what I sell is non-taxable and is checked to not charge sales tax. Sales that go through Paypal for PA residents don't get charged (assuming it is yet again a non-taxable item). I just collect it and turn it in to the state when needed. I decided it isn't worth the bother of refunding the customer AND taking the Google refund fee hit on top of it. If Google didn't have that fee, I would refund.
However, why a customer in a different state from you got charged, that is weird. Have you had sales tax charged for that state before? Could be one of those states that wants to collect sales tax for all internet purchases, but you aren't in the position to collect and distribute it. If you really want to know I would try checking with Google checkout as I think it is their problem. |
