I am trying to update my Google data feed by adding the condition to it. I have opened up my feed onto a spreadsheet and added the condition column and made the additions of new or used. Then when I go to save it, I noticed that the quotation marks are missing. How do I put them back in, so that Google will accept my feed?
Thanks in advance.

The quote marks are not necessary, but check your feed file to remove any quotes from your description and title. The simplest thing to do is search and replace any double quotes with two single quotes.

If I do the Froogle feed export from my PSU store, I get a downloaded document that opens in notepad. I then copied and pasted it into Excel spreadsheet and added the condition column. Then when it asks to save, I change it to the file name I use in Google Base and when it asks for save as type I choose text (tab delimited). Am I choosing the wrong type to save as?

That's what I do and it seems to work.

Tab delimited is fine. Excel is quirky on the text formats, and quirkier on the comma delimited so I prefer to use tab when possible. Just make sure there are no tabs in your data itself.

Try opening your file in excel. Maybe you're converting it too many times.

I just FILE OPEN my file with excel, make any changes I want and SAVE AS tab-delimited for google base. No notepad in between and never had any problems.

You don't need to put anything in quotes, in case that's what you're doing.

(I also have a PSU store)

Hope this helps,
sylvia

Text is the wrong choice.

text (tab delimited) is the correct choice to export for a google base feed. Text (ms-dos) will probably also work, since it defaults to tab.

Quotes around the fields are only needed for the attributes which have quotes in the text. Which is none of the standard attributes as far as I know. You don't need them, it won't hurt if you have them, but ...

WithOUT quotes around the text in a field (column), any quotes INside the text can cause problems, not only for GoogleBase but for whatever else you might use that imports the feed. My suggestion of replacing all the quote marks is more a "best practice" kind of thing, not a requirement. In theory, the quotes shouldn't matter in a tab-delimited file. In practice, they often do.

That's correct. The extention of the file will be .txt, but the file type will be tab-delimited.

Let me qualify something about the quotes. I should correct myself. If your PRODUCT DESCRIPTION includes any HTML coding, even simple bolding or line breaks, then you should select "Use Quoted Fields" (in the Froogle Base Export area of the PSU store).

This is because the HTML coding will 'confuse' things and make a mess when any program tries to read that tab-delimited file with those html characters in there. Mine is marked by default in my store and I just leave it.

THEN I go to Excel and yada-yada-yada...LOL

Make sense? :D
