Hi -

It's been advised that we submit our url to the search engines. Do we do this only one time, or do we need to keep doing it from time to time, and if so how often? If we need to keep re-submitting doesn't the search engine think you are a new site each time you re-submit which I read here is not a good thing?

TIA!

There is no need to resubmit the url from time to time. Once the search engine knows about your site it will revisit you frequently based on how often the site changes, what the content is, links into your site and other factors.

It is a good idea though to build a sitemap file in the format the particular engine likes and you can submit that as often as your content changes. The sitemap makes it easier for the engine to index your site and can help it include more pages in the index, more frequently in my opinion.

SEO is a long term commitment, there is no do it today and get results tomorrow. There is a link in my signature on marketing your website to a page I did on the things I do to market my site.

Good luck and have patience.

You want maximum effect for minimum time?

Go back to eBay.

They do the work for you. That's why you pay them the high fees.

From another site :

Be bold. Use the tags around some of your keywords on each page. Do NOT use them everywhere the keyword appears. Once or twice is plenty.

Deep linking. Make sure you have links coming in to as many pages as possible. What does it tell a search engine when other web sites are linking to different pages on your site? That you obviously have lots of worthwhile content.

First come, first served. If you must have image links in your navigation bar, include also text links. However, make sure the text links show up first in the source code, because search engine robots will follow the first link they find to any particular page. They won't follow additional links to the same page. You can see this in action at the link to the home page on this web site monitoring page

Multiple domains. If you have several topics that could each support their own website, it might be worth having multiple domains. Why? First, search engines usually list only one page per domain for any given search, and you might warrant two. Second, directories usually accept only home pages, so you can get more directory listings this way.

Article exchanges. You've heard of link exchanges, useless as they generally are. Article exchanges are like link exchanges, only much more useful. You publish someone else's article on the history of pudding pops with a link back to their site. They publish your article on the top ten pudding pop flavors in Viet Nam, with a link back to your site. You both have content. You both get high quality links. (More on high quality links in other tips.)

Titles for links. Links can get titles, too. Not only does this help visually impaired surfers know where you are sending them, but some search engines figure this into their relevancy for a page.

Not anchor text. Don't overdo the anchor text. You don't want all your inbound links looking the same, because that looks like automation - something Google frowns upon. Use your URL sometimes, your company name other times, "Gumbo Pudding Pop" occasionally, "Get gumbo pudding pops" as well, "Gumbo-flavored pudding pops" some other times, etc.

Site map. A big site needs a site map, which should be linked to from every page on the site. This will help the search engine robots find every page with just two clicks. A small site needs a site map, too. It's called the navigation bar.

Don't like hyperlinks that say "click here". You're not selling "click here", use titles and item names as the links.

Just some tips.

Becareful who you hire for this stuff. Most will just make money from you. Especially the ones who "promises" to get you results. It doesn't work that way. Check google for yourself they strongly advise against these scam artists so you need to becareful.

We both know that getting high ranking is easy for keywords that are not popular. Heck just search google for site2textincome right now and you will it come up on the first page that point to this forum and I barely started posting yesterday. It shouldn't take 6 weeks to do that. Also, you provide professional website design correct? You charge people money to make their site "professional" but yet your own site has errors and on the FRONT page may I add.

I agree with you, your sites do look nice. Just saying that you have an error on your your main page "Web Design" links to a error 404 page which doesn't say professional if you know what i mean so maybe you should fix that 8)

good catch.. I've been working super busy and there is a good reason (almost) mako solutions got hacked, deleted a bunch of websites and we were one of them.. used a backup copy of the site but i guess the database wasn't exactly the same date.. lol. If I ever find who was running that server or the guy who hacked mako solutions I'm going to ring that neck.
