I got a call from an outfit called PayLeap ( http://payleap.com/ ), and the guy on the phone went on at some length about how his company was better than Paypal. While it wouldn't take much to be better than Paypal, I had never heard of this outfit before, and info on the 'net seems to consist primarily of press releases put out by them (as WC Fields would say, they're well spoken-of in the advertisements).
Basically, from the information that they sent me, they are just another CC merchant account processor with a few new wrinkles, one of which is that they pay something resembling affiliate-style commissions if you recruit new customers (merchants) for them.
So, anybody here actually use PayLeap, and if so, what do you think? Here's your chance to "recruit" me if you can convince me that they would save me anything over PayPal. But as little as I like PayPal, the volume of charges I run (varies from a low of around $500 to a high of about $3000 a month, with 5 to 30 transactions, average transaction being about $100) doesn't seem to justify a $30/month maintenance fee plus a 2.15% discount plus a 25-cent transaction fee. The PayPal percentage is a bit higher, but there is no $30/month maintenance. |

This is for an ongoing buiness (7 years) that currently has a website that I wrote myself.
I have seen similar maintenance charges for other merchant CC accounts. My wife's tax biz had one that cost about $40/month, so the account monthly charge didn't seem all that strange.
If you are asking about my website maintenance, my out-of-pocket expense for this particular business is very low. I do all the website maintenance myself. I also do website maintenance for a couple of other customers, which basically covers all of my hosting expenses and then some. |

I switched several months back from Authorize.net to PayLeap. I can't complain! My main issue was the lack of customer service I was getting with my old provider and the fact that I had to have both a payment gateway account and a merchant service provider with two different companies. Now if I have a question I get a person and it doesn't take 30 minutes on hold to get them! Here's the current rates: http://payleap.com/merchants-rates.html
There are a couple other things I like too like free recurring billing. I was paying $20 extra per month for that as I have a subscription service. They also have a secure mobile site which is pretty slick if im at a trade show. |

Thanks for the feedback. So far, I have not heard anything really negative about them, but I'm not sure whether it's because they are simply awesome, or just haven't been around long enough to hack somebody off. I'm guessing it's the latter; NO business has 100% happy customers, simply because there are people who will be unhappy no matter what you do.
Would like feedback from others, too, good, bad, or indifferent. |

| Howard, if you've switched to payleap can you give us an update on how well you liked it? Or did you choose to go with another service? |

| Thanks for the come-back. Please let us know when you decide. Like the other poster I'm using Authorize.net and would like alternatives but it's really difficult to evaluate from online information. |
