|
|
Amazon.com said it will begin requiring tracking ID, carrier name, and ship method for all buyer-requested expedited shipments. Manage Orders and feeds will return an error if a shipment confirmation does not include this information for a buyer-requested expedited shipment. It said it was making the change "to further improve the buyer experience" and said it would post another announcement on the Seller Success Board when the change goes into effect. (Link)
Amazon.com also announced it was reducing the Referral Fee on sales of video game consoles for an initial 6-month test period.

| No Big deal, I already have to confirm each shipment before I get the Payment added to my account. For some reason this has been since day one since I joined seller central. |

Update:
"Tracking-Information Requirement Postponed"
We have postponed this change in order to allow sellers more time to prepare. We recommend beginning to prepare now, but we will post an update at least a month before the requirement goes into effect.

A good idea is a good idea. Seems self-evident. I was told as a boy that "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
I don't know who did this first nor should we care. As policy cannot be patented. Smart venues implement these "good" ideas all the time. Or not.
If online auctions were pioneered by eBay then why are we seeking alternate sites who have copied much of what eBay did in the beginning? Wouldn't they all be copycats and therefore rejected for their being imitations? I think not. |

Google Checkout doesn't require you to do this to my knowledge.
I'm using GCO right now along side my MA.
Google does have a 'send shipping notice' button on
the sellers interface page, but I don't use it.
I simply archive the order once an item paid for by GCO has shipped.
As a matter of fact, I don't even give tracking info to my customers at all.
It causes too much confusion as many still think Priority Mail w/eDC is tracking.
When I did do this briefly (years ago)...
I was being inundated with e mails saying:
'The number don't show' and stuff like that.
I simply send a shipment notification along with an electronic invoice
and I do NOT mention the DC number at all.
Saves us a ton on ink/paper expenses and is 'green' too.
If the customer e mails back and requests the DC #.
I then send it to them with a cut and past explaining DC is NOT tracking.
Works for me and it's has also stopped a couple from trying to pull the old
"I didn't get my widget' routine.
On that rare occasion, once they SEE it shows delivered
and I ask them to check with neighbors, post man etc.
I never heard back from them. :) |

If you check into the "fine print", you'll find that Google...
1. Requires that you ship within 24 hours of accepting payment or the buyer gets refunded.
2. Requires that you provide GCO with the tracking number within 24 hours of accepting payment or the buyer gets refunded.
And GCO does NOT consider DC to be proof of delivery, since it doesn't show the buyer's street address. They require Signature Confirmation.
But none of this really matters if everything works. It's when there's a problem, that the T&C come into play. |

RE Google Checkout rules:
The rules about signature confirmation apply only if the amount of the sale is above $250. Plain old delivery confirmation is fine (bought for 18 cents) as proof of delivery below that.
You present proof of delivery only if there is a complaint. Not every sale.
Those who wish to delay shipment can delay accepting the funds. Up to the seller.
If you were the buyer, would you want slow shippers to keep funds while delaying delivery? Me neither.
Seems totally reasonable to me. |
