So Amazon has this new charge when ship/only get paid when you confirm shipment.
Great for buyers right? Nope.
Amazon does not require tracking or proof of shipment. All you need to do is select the shipper, any shipper and hit enter. No tracking required. No proof of shipment. Nothing.
What a waste of time.

cohibastore - I find that hard to understand - I likely lack the context.
I especially don't understand the opening sentence. "new charge when ship/only get paid"? |

Hi PRG,
You may have missed this new program so I'll fill you in.
Amazon recently started a system where they do not charge the buyer or pay the seller until the seller confirms the shipment and enters the required shipping information.
Except they don't really require the shipment be confirmed
I discovered this by accident when placing an order on amazon through another merchant. I got the shipping confirmation email via Amazon from the other seller, but there was no shipping info except "Shipped via USPS"
Nothing.
What's the point of having a program to ensure order are actually shipped, if Amazon does not enforce the program.
Its does not address the spider sellers or scammers one iota, so its a waste of time.

Hmmm. Thanks for the explanation. I don't know what category of goods you were buying, but IMO, I would not want Amazon to require delivery confirmation for Media Mail items. One reason I prefer to shop there is because they keep the shipping costs down. So I guess they're using the honor system.
I was not aware that Amazon had scam sellers. I got the impression their standards were pretty stringent. I would be generally willing to take an Amazon sellers word for it regarding an item having shipped. In more expensive goods categories, though, I would think tracking would be a good idea if not a requirement - and allowed in the shipping allowance? |

| Well, one of the reasons Amazon implemented this was to cut down on the number of refunds that had to be issued when a seller sold an item that they did not actually have. A buyer purchases an item, pays for it, the seller gets the order, realizes they have already sold the item on another venue, so then they have to have Amazon issue a refund back to the buyer. Now, if a buyer purchases an item, and the seller does not have it, the seller can just cancel the order. No money actually moves until the seller "confirms" that the item is shipped. It is also geared to cut down on the correspondence between the seller and the buyer as Amazon automatically sends an email to the buyer when the shipper confirms the shipment. Amazon actually requests that the seller NOT contact the buyer to let them know the item has been shipped as Amazon will do that themselves. |
