Hi,
I'm not sure if this belongs in this section, but since I have no idea what causes the problem i will just post it here.

System: WinXP Sevice Pack 3, IE8 running IE7 Mode, Firefox 3.0., Joomla 1.5, VM 1.1.3, php5, mysql on localhost
Aristeer 2 template and VM defaoult theme and theme, css.

When shopping cart is active and user gets to checkout the cart and product scroller get moved from right column to the bottom of main content body below the user registration form, taking space over all 3 columns. This problem does not appear in Firefox 3.0.1.,, only in IE8. Since i'm about building the shop I have no other modules positioned in the right column yet.
When the cart is inactive (empty) and user gets to registration form thru the login everything is just fine.
I have worked on this for several days and nights trying to figure out what causes the problem as described above, but i don't have enough programming skills to know or how to fix it. Anyway, in my opinion the "stretcher" , the hidden registration form that becomes visible after clicking the radio button for new registration might be the problem. It is visible right ahead after clicking the Checkout link when the cart is active.
I really don't think this could be a css problem.
Please, Please, is there anybody in this forum who knows a solution or has dealt with a problem like this before too?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Site is offline on localhost so unfortunately I can't provide a link.
Thank you for your help

Go to the Joomla forum and ask there as it sounds like an easy fix for those that know the code, and it is probably happening to a few people, with the release of IE8

I have had a similar problem. It seems that you have put an oversized picture on there somewhere. Look at recently added pictures and resize them smaller. psunite has helped me with this before and after doing the above mentioned it solved my problem. Good Luck!

Thank you guys for your replies.
my hubby has posted the problem on a german joomla forum but has not gotten any response yet.
The picture size can't be the problem because all my pictures have been resized and the problem only occurs if an unregistered user shows the shopping cart and clicks the checkout link to register.
If the user is logged in already everything works fine. The problem also doesn't occur with Firefox.

There is another one that is having problems with IE8, it is always the same every time they release a new version, the developers are constantly having to add code to the CSS to fix the mess.

Follow the link and see what they have added to their website, that looks like frustration.

You could try validate a direct input on w3 validator http://validator.w3.org/#validate-by-input
I think there is a css validator also they can both bring up a few things but I don't have the css one on my blog.

You could also show the code on webdev, i have not been on for a while but they used to be a good place to get a quick solution, if it is css related.

Thank you for the links. I will check them out and see what I can achieve.
The plug in for joomla does only evaluate IE8 to IE7 and I have a problem showing the page right with IE7 too. Still I will install it and see if it makes any difference. Unfortunately there are a lot of people using IE6, 7 or 8 and so the right way would be to change the code or css in a way you can please everyone. This is an eternal challenge because every single one of the browser developpers brew their own little soup and can not find a common standard. Somehow I will have to come up with some kind of a solution or the products I have in my inventory will become antiques before I ever get my online store up and running. LOL
I'll let you guys know how things came out.
