Unfortunately, not too many people in my city (Boise, Id) use craigslist or even know about it unless they moved here from California, Seattle, etc. Which is really too bad because CL is an excellent site. Freecylce.org is the big community-based site in my city. Problem with Freecycle, you cant sell on there... Everything has to be free (which is cool, but hard to make a living on charity).

Has anyone ever listed items for sale on Craigslist.org? If so have you had any luck?

Thanks!

Hi Envirobay,
I go on Craigslist about once a week. Not to sell, to advertise. I have never thought of selling on that site. I go into as many cities as I can, not just LA, and I put in ads that read like this 'PVH is now selling on PSU. Come visit my store on PSU to get the best bargains in new, used and collectible books'. (Obviously I'm not selling on PSU-that's just for example.)
List your ad in Los Angeles, the Bronx, even in the European section.
Hint. Keep changing the wording.
Hope this helps you.

I listed some things on CL this fall. I did get some emails amaizingly quick, but I can't say that it brought me any sales. I really don't know.

I was promoting my farm stand and the farmers market, so if it did bring me sales no one told me that's how they got there.

The idea of using it for advertising other sites or your own web page is a good one. I'll have to try that later on.

You do have to switch wording or pics around to list in more than one city or it will flag you as spamming.

I sold - guitars I bought from a wholeseller at ebay. I am in Los Angeles, and craigslist is pretty busy here.

Just had a pick-up for another one this evening.

Yeah, they don't allow duplicates. For instance: If you have an ad "XYZ" listed in ABC city, they wont let you list the same ad "XYZ" in DEF city at the same time. You woudl have to try and list ZYX add in DEF.

Good idea. I have often thought that ebay would be an excellent place to buy things for my local brick and mortar store, or any retail store. The prices on ebay are pretty much as low as they can get (generally speaking).

Thank you for the kind words! My store has been coming along very slowly... Gotta focus my time where it is best used. But I should finish it soon enough.

Thanks again! :~)

Envirobay- I live in Jersey and I've used CL but nothing sold. I am in yahoo's freecycle group also and learned about another yahoo group that you can sell your stuff on locally. It's called yahoo yardsales. check out if they are in your area. It's usually by county around here.
Good luck

I've sold a couple of things at CL. With Google Base and soon Microsoft's Classifieds you should have at least one good alternative to CL. Not sure what Google Base is doing but it certainly isn't promoting it Base any big hurry!

Hi there! I have only listed a few (like 2) things on craigslist and got like 2 replies for one 1 item but didn't sell it. I don't go on very often and when I do it's just to check out the want ads and the free items listings. But let me tell you a whole lot of my friends love the place and go on all the time and it's to buy. You might be right about it being the city you live in. I'm in the metro area of Portland,OR which is a fairly big city! But don't give up hope! People in Boise could catch on soon!

Craigslist is very popular in the Portland, OR area.

I've sold 100% of everything I've listed on there and I list things about once a month.

It's still very much in Beta Testing...I hope they make the search function better. It's very confusing.

{{{{PVH}}}} Good to see you.
Me too...I never thought of "listing" per se` there.
I have used them mostly for advertising, pretty much the same way you do it PVH...but now I'm going to be giving that some serious thought!! I Don't think I'll be thinking that long either hahaha!

Hi everyone! I love CL! I sold a whole house full of furniture and stuff through them. But wait! Not only that! The house was also sold because of the furniture I sold through there. One of the buyers of some of the furniture asked about the house (it was about to go into foreclosure.. long story). Well, as it happens he was buying houses, fixing them up and selling them quick at a profit. He and his partners bought the house, foreclosure never happened, and some money was made on the sale of the house! It worked out well for all involved.

Now I post ads for advertising purposes only, but I can't say it's been as successful as the furniture/house story. It's a good resource, though. No stone left unturned and all that :)

This maybe a little late now but I just list something on CL and it wasn't even up an hour and I had it sold. To the first person who responded. I think the trick with CL is having the "right item" to sell and what city your in.
