| Craig's list is a great resource for services as well as selling items. I have found my farrier, new stable for my horse, someone to move my hay and firewood. I live in Oregon as well, so it's a lively place to advertise your items/website. Plus it's free ( so far !) |

TRUE!
I've been listing merchandise on CL for over a year now while offering shipping to ANY destination within the U.S. and still sold NOTHING
Build your own web site/store and make your own $ while promoting YOUR business, not others IMHO! |

| I have recently sold stuff too big to sell online. I have done exceptionally well selling the following in my area: Bratz dolls, Barbies in huge lots, Legos in huge lots, action figures that don't match each other, a spinning wheel, quilt fabric, baby clothes, jewelry, battat dolls. I think it has to do with what you are offering. |

| Someone told me that you can list in a city where you know you will get excellent sales prices, and that you can use paypal or google shopping cart for the buyer to pay and then you can ship just like you do normally on the auction sites, with tracking insurance etc..and it is a very nice alternative to selling on the auction sites who take so much in fees. Has anyone done this? I mean, I live in an area where I could probably do "ok" selling here, but I'm a little frightened of meeting strangers in person!LOL! and I do think I could fetch better prices in California and New York on some of my stuff?? anyone care to add any info or is there something I'm missing as far as what can and cannot be done by selling on CL? |

oclgal; NonLocal ads are usually flagged and deleted.
Craigslist's theme is "Deal Locally To Avoid Scams"
and they don't seem open to suggestions for mail
order sales. |

Most buyers like Craigslist because they can pick it up
and "Have It Today".
Despite all the rumors, NonLocal sales are against
the TOS and most users look at listings offering to
ship as "spam".
I'm addicted to buying and selling on CL. Better for
buyers and sellers without all the fees. |

I have listed on CL before, and got great results locally. It's great for hard-to-ship things like boats or furniture, for posting yard sales for free, and for collectible items. I decided to post a counter in a recent CL listing to see what kind of traffic was coming through. I was getting hundreds of hits-- far more than I ever got with ebay on most items. That's probably due to the way the listings come up in order-- where many people browse through the list instead of doing searches only. The traffic was coming from all across my state-- not just in my own area... and a few from other states. I thought that was interesting.
If you list on CL, I recommend cancelling and re-listing your item every once in a while so they don't get lost in the list. If I get a sale on there, most of the time it's soon after it's listed.... within a few days.
If you live out in the middle of nowhere, I can see how CL would not work for you. But if you are in an area with some kind of population, it works great. |

hi, Peter88...
I have sold a few items on CraigsList, but I was wondering what Counter you used and if it was apparent when viewing your ad. I would love to see what kind of traffic I get in my ads and where they come from! |

I have used CL for over 4 years and have sold tons of things while running my auctions on ebay. I go to auctions all the time and some of the stuff that comes in lots would not ship well so put them up on CL.
I inherited a dining room set that was made at the turn of the century and sold it last week on CL. It was at my brothers house about 50 miles away from where I live and the buyer showed up at the specified time and paid cash.
As I live outside Wichita, KS to the southwest, when I do put items up for sale, I let people know how to get here and will also email extra pic's to them of the items. I always state in my listings that prices are firm and that the 1st buyer who shows up with cash in hand gets the item. I don't hold anything for anyone...ever. It's a waste of time.
Another good way to sell on CL is by checking the WANTED section. I see if I have anything anyone is looking for and if I do, shoot them an email and give them a price. Have sold many things this way. Also, try the barter section if you are looking for something and someone else has something you need or want.
As for KIJIJI, they suck and would never ever use them...the only reason ebay bought the shares from one of the original owners friends and with their BS story and reputation about trust and safety.....LOL!!!! |

| Google Analytics may work for you - I have seen it recommended by other sellers for other listings. |

Craigslist is great. I use them for large items and when I want to reduce inventory.
Craigslist ranks high in Google so you receive exposure outside of your listing area. A few weeks ago I sold 12 audio books to one person out of state. I just listed the tapes as a group on my website and she was able to pay through Google. If you do not have a website you can send an invoice through PayPal or Google or accept a money order.
I do not list many items at a time on Craigslist however, because answering all the emails from customers can become confusing and time consuming. |
