I'm boggled.

EXTREMELY common! They want to send you a check for something like $3,000. OVER the purchase price and arrange for their "mover" or "shipper" to pick up the item. They want you to cash their check for the wrong amount that their "secretary made a mistake on" or some other BS, then they want you to send the overage to their "mover" or "shipper" via Western Union and keep the amount for the item which of course doesn't exist since it's a bad check...

Also you used to think it was safe to accept cashiers checks. Nope!
I have a car listed on there right now and I know what you mean about the scammers. I get daily emails just wanting to know if I still have my car for sale...I respond and never hear back from them. I think they just cultivate emails from the ads.
Dang I just want to sell my car already.

Good luck selling your car! I did GREAT with my last vehicle sale on Craigslist. Several years ago, I had the idea to use my truck (Toyota 4X4 with big 'ole tires on it, LOL) to help get the down payment for my house. I wanted to sell the truck for $4K, buy a nice car for $2K, put the difference toward the house. My husband said no way, said I couldn't get more than $1,500. for the truck. I needed a second opinion, so took it to a great auto consignment place nearby. They refused to price it over $2,200., and their cut would've been $200. of that. I decided to throw out everyone else's opinion, went with mine alone, put the truck on Craiglist for $4,000., had $4,000. cash in my hand less than 24 hours later.

I sell on CL frequently. Everything from collector cars to furniture and household items.

It helps to put in your listings something to the effect of Local cash only sales or something like that if you want to not be bothered by the scammers.

I really like selling on craigslist. I like cash in small unmarked bills. That is my NO 1 selling venue and the fees are ----0000---.

I just tell the bogus check writers to get lost. Pretty soon they don't bother you at all. I keep about 15 or 20 ads on all the time.

I have a shop and they come there to pick stuff up.

I just sold a trampoline today from a Craigslist listing. Just dont accept a cashiers check from someone who says they want it without even coming to look at it and saying they will send their guys over to pick it up. Just tell them you only accept cash and they will leave you alone. :)

I just had another big sale today. I sold my commercial soft serve ice cream machine. These are so much work and I am glad to see it rolled out the front door.

I haven't managed to sell anything on there yet, but I keep trying. I got weird responses for my car seat, so I put that on Freecycle and just got rid of it.

I've used it to look for furniture and applied for several jobs fromt herre (and had two interviews!!)

CL is suppose to be a great place to list your items for sale, but if you are like me and use dropshippers or place orders directly with the dealers for the products you are advertising, then CL will kick you off. They did me.
I am an AFG baby funiture dealer and AFG ships directly to the customers.
CL told me if I did not stock the item where the readers could actually come by and see the item, then it was not something for their classifieds.
I am not about to stock our entire lot of baby furniture just so I can sell one at a time on CL.
in the ads, I referred the customers to my online store in the ad and I did get 3-4 people to purchase. This was another taboo by CL.

So if you don't stock it yourself and you can't let the locals drop by to actually see the item, for whatever reason, be cautious when listing on CL.
They will remove a classified as quick as you post it if it not exactly to their liking.
No I did not take the time to read their policy so it was my fault. Such a shame since it was bringing in the customers. Nothing else had worked as well.
Just so you know. I had a Garage sale last weekend. Garage sales are accepted without any problems. We are in Oklahoma.
I listed the sale on CL and a few other classified sites.
My husband had forgetten to put out the signs, so our first day all we had coming by was about 50-60 people that read the ads. Most were from CL.
It woud be a great place to advertise if they would just create a catagory for online stores to do this.
