You are right CL is not for everyone in so far as they are for local people to buy and sell where sellers do have their product there already to inspect and pick up by the buyer.

But that is what they advertise themselves to be.

I understand your disappointment though.

Yes i was very disappointed.
I should have read the policy but just did not take the time to do so.
With the traffic I got from CL it beat any of the other advertising forms I had tried, paid or free.
I really do wish they would create a catagory for online shopping. Actually this catagory would not have as many scammers as the the other classifieds have bc, no one wants to create a website for a short term scam.
I would not even mind paying for the ads if they would. Well not if they wanted to charge as much as EB. lol
Thanks for the reply and have a very blessed week.
Mary

For me it's a great place to post items for sale that are too large to ship. I also list bulk inventory and supplies that I no longer use.

Thanks, Good luck with your sales.
I am going to send CL an email to see if they can add the online shopping to their catagories. DUH why didn't I think of this before. lol
Other classified sites have the catagory or similar so why shouldn't CL be interested as well. Guess I will find out. ((:

Good Luck but don't be to disappointed if they pass on it as I think they have been asked before but decided they would rather keep things local.

I'm hoping to sell my ferret cage this week.

We bought a new ferret, on CL, which came with a 3 story cage, so now I need to get rid of the smaller cage, since I let my kid talk me into another ferret.

It's a great place to buy stuff!! Like spare ferrets.

By keeping sales local craigs avoids the online payment problem as well as fighting scammers. They recommend accepting cash only. That way they don't have to keep books for the IRS as they are not privvy to the sale or the payments. Smart thinking.

Craigs only has about 25 employees and is dominating the online selling. Really smart thinking.

If ebay had as much savvy as craig has in his little toe they would be booming too instead of losing market share.

Well, since CL forbids links to other websites, I would guess they have NO intention of having an online section.

As to the assertion that no one would create a website for a short term scam, guess again. It happens quite frequently. Scammers want to get their money and get out.

In your case, I'd recommend trying Oodle.

Oodle is a good site but really does not bring in the traffic like CL did.
kijiji.com gets us more traffic than Oodle but still no where as much as CL did..
Guess I will just have to get over it...lol
Thanks so much for the input.

We have been selling on the internet since 2002 so we have tried about every type of advertising there is and have ran into a lot of scammers. Until we learned all the protective ways, we did fall for 2-3 scams..
Most are a total waste of money.

It's pretty hard to scam someone with a website if there is feedback available or if the website has been up for several month or even years.. I am not talking about just a few ratings, but LOTS of feedback.
Yes I do realize that there are some overnight or one month type scamming websites around. But you can tell a scam site almost immediately. Very few of these jerks will put a lot of time and effort into a website. They will claim they are just having problems or that they are "working on the site." Their main goal is to grab the money and run.
Guess I will just have to get over CL if they won't do the new catagory...lol
Thanks so much for the input.
Have a very blessed week.

I have to agree that their current business strategy is 'great'. They seem to manage that which is necessary, but stay out of the nitty-gritty. The members seem to report violations and action is taken.

I hope as CL continues to grow/expand that they don't change the model. If it ain't broke, don't fix it - I say!!

I made a nice sale on CL yesterday and am very glad to get a charcoal grill out of my garage!

Craigslist works very well for me when selling large, heavy items. Since it's local only, there's no costly shipping to contend with, and you get cash in your hand quickly. Every used appliance I've listed at Craigslist sold without a problem.

From a sale of services standpoint, I also do well with selling my PC repair/upgrade services on Craigslist.

Agree - and that's what is so nice ... is when you are ready to get rid of an item - someone else can give it a home.

My oldest was still in a twin bed until about a year ago. He's 6'2", and over 200 lbs. - so an upgrade was long over-due.

I ordered his new queen size bed and mattress set online, and thus had to get his room cleared. So - shot the photos, and listed the bed with several matching pieces - and boom - it was gone within a day.

I had it priced 'fairly' and it went quickly! I was pleased as I hadn't thought about where I'd put his furniture when the new 'stuff' arrived.

I've got many other items to 'get out there' and outa here - just need to take the time to shoot the photos and go.

I've seen hijacked accounts on eBay with tens of thousands of positive ratings.

Once the hijackers get control, they change the passwords and Paypal addresses, then load the site with hundreds or thousand of non-existant items. Then sit back and rake in the money.

After a couple of weeks, they change the Paypal addresses and passwords back to what they had been before and look for another account to "borrow".
