Hello!
After months of trying to get an account on Amazon ive finally had it approved today in a managed category.
Does anyone else on here sell clothing/underwear?
Im just wondering how sales compare on Amazon to Ebay?
Ebay has taken a massive nosedive in the last few months for me hence why im looking into Amazon.
Is it easy to list? What are the fees like?
Any help much appreciated!!! Thanks :P |

My experience with Amazon as a seller was a nightmare.
First you have to be approved in selling some categories like computers, cell phones etc.
I opened an account with amazon and I filled around 10 orders of books and electronics.
They put my account for review after 15 days freezing the funds while I was getting order & required me to fill it.
After 15 days they released the funds.
Then I month later I got 1 negative feedback due to usps delay and I had 99% feedback.
Then they put my account again on hold for another review & frozen my funds.
Then I got a email that my seller account was permanently banned and all my funds frozen for 90 days and put in a reserve with no interest.
When I finally got my funds, I closed my amazon account.
What a nightmare plus the high fees (around 20 % of my sales).
Plus you have to be a pro-merchant ($39.95) to create listings not in their catalog. But the competitors can also list for fee along with you once you create a listing after paying this high subscription fee.
Their reason for banning my account was said as seller non-performance and they said their rating system was proprietary and cannot disclose the details. What a bunch of crap.
They occasionally freeze Sellers and account and think how much money they make in interest as reserve amount and it look good on their profit balance.
I never had a problem with feebay where I still sell sometimes and has 100% feedback.
Now I am mostly selling on Ecrater & Bonanzle and very happy with my sales, peace of mind and high profit I can make.
I have to thank Google products for breaking the Ebay & Amazon monopoly as the main places to sell. But now they are paying google products to get on the top of search listings.
If anyone has a similar experience please share. |

I do not sell in a restricted category but except for the fees, I have no problem with Amazon.

If you thought eBay's fees were high, wait until you see Amazon's.
Up to 30% of the sale price, depending on the category.
And Amazon sets the price for shipping, not the seller. I'm not sure if they keep any of it, like HDC does.
Not to mention, they use a rating system very similar to eBay's DSRs. |

Incorrect. As an approved seller they can set their own shipping rates.

I've listed a few items on Amazon, piggybacking on listings created by someone who paid for it, as JJJ laments above. Amazon sets the shipping in that situation and provides a flat rate amount to the seller. It's more than our actual shipping on those items so I can't complain.
We sold out of those listings, so I can't complain about that either. The fees were far less than on eBay after all was said and done. I'd just like to find more Amazon catalog intersections with my wife's inventory - no way am I going to buy or create UPC's for all of that stuff. |

You don't need the UPC. Pro Merchants can create non UPC's listings under the 'everything else' category. Very little in my industry get UPCs and a majority of the items that sell for me on Amazon are sold in the everything else category.
