i liked Win3.x... I stayed with that till there was absolutely no alternative. I upgraded to 95, but... that didn't last long and I went with 98SE ... kept that till absolutely no alternative. I'm on XP and like it... and have no intentions of changing till there is absolutely no alternative.. And I'm going to repeat some thing here...
NEVER EVER buy 1st editon MS operating systems!!!

Sound advice and one of the reasons I continue to report the MS bugs.
IMHO any new product, whether it be MS, Firefox, Chevy, Ford, Apple or whatever new latest gadget comes out I like a LONG trial run before personally exploring it's benefits to ME. |

I like windows Xp and staying with it until Microsoft drop its support.
I didn't find anything exciting about Windows 7 and Windows XP serve all my needs with no problems.
I didn't even liked vista so Windows 7 - the update vista os is not much exciting to me.

I've never tried Vista, so I have no idea what the differences are, if any.
But I went from Win 98 SE to Windows 7 and so far I have no complaints.
Many things are now easier to do than they were before. |

Hello,
Well with the amount of power and resources these computers have now-a-days its pretty hard to notice any real difference in usage resources. Im just suprised that microsoft did not promote the new 7 more than they did. That was my curiousity in what the difference would be.
Anyway have a great night,
Thanks,

"Out of the box, Win 7 less secure than Vista"
According to a well respected security firm, Microsoft’s flagship Windows 7 operating system is less secure in its default configuration that Vista.
Trend Micros CEO Raimund Genes believes that Microsoft has put usability ahead of security:
“I’m not saying Windows 7 is insecure, but out of the box Vista is better.”
“I was disappointed when I first used a Windows 7 machine that there was no warning that I had no anti-virus, unlike Vista. There are no file extension hidden warnings either. Even when you do install anti-virus, warnings that it has not been updated are almost invisible.”
“Windows 7 may be an improvement in terms of usability but in terms of security it’s a mistake, though one that isn’t that surprising. When Microsoft’s developers choose between usability and security, they will always choose usability.”
Interestingly, Genes believes that the XP Mode feature present in some editions of Windows 7 actually improves security because it makes available a sandboxed OS. Other security firms (in particular Sophos) have criticized XP Mode, labeling it a security risk because it needs to be patched separately.
So, for a more secure Windows 7, Trend Micro recommends upping your UAC setting higher.

Mine came preloaded with Norton anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall for 60 days. Besides Norton, there is also an anti-virus and firewall from MS that is currently not activated.
After my 60 days is up, I will switch my anti-virus over to Avast, get a new anti-spyware and firewall, rather than pay Norton $50 for a year's service. |
