I don't think Paypal will honour restocking fees.

Believe me after I saw that answer I'm very secure they will not honor it. For that reason I wrote it.

PAYPALS SHOP LIFTER PROTECTION PROGRAM TO START NOV. 1st

Paypal used to give their buyer protection to Ebay to boost traffic and sales on Ebay. Buyer Protection and instant pay are exclusive to Paypal and since Ebay owns Paypal the buyer protection was only used on Ebay.

Paypals buyer protection automatically refunds to buyers without regard to sellers proof or sales ratings. Paypals only motive for their buyer protection program is to produce Paypal usage and increase Ebay sales.

With the growing popularity of Google Checkout and falling Ebay sales because of Ebays bad management and fee increases to drive off non retail sellers they have to find other ways to replace the lost Ebay profits and declining Paypal usage.

Ebay and Paypal are now extending the Paypal buyer protection program to all internet selling venues and web sites that use Paypal. Paypals buyer protection does mean buyers are more likely to purchase but it also means buyers have an open door to "Rip Off" sellers.

I as a seller have experianced alot of buyer scams with Paypals buyer protection on Ebay. Most buyers are honest upstanding people but when you get a buyer that has the overaggressive alpha personality that's hell bent on getting a freebie or a significant price reduction they will use Paypals buyer protection to pull off a scam on sellers. Remember, Paypals buyer protection means the buyer automatically wins the complaint "No Matter What".

Things that happen using Paypals buyer protection:

* Attempts to return broken items in exchange for what's been shipped to the buyer.

* Making the purchase and exchanging parts that are needed then sending unit back for a refund.

* Extorting partial refunds

* Getting a refund due to a mistake made by the buyer in the purchase of the item.

I've complained about the above mentioned buyer frauds for years on Ebay because I always send out well described items to custormers and I'm not one of those sellers out to defraud buyers.

I came to the conclusion years ago that Paypals buyer protection program isn't to protect buyers. It's to increase usage and revenues to Ebay and Paypal "ONLY!". The seller may win the first complaint then all the complaints after the first one are decided in the buyers favor no matter what. This is the Paypal buyer protection program plan engineered against sellers and to attract buyers then lock sellers into offering Paypal and issuing refunds even if the seller knows they are getting ripped off.

Paypal will start the "Shop Lifter Protection Program" Nov. 1st so get ready

"PayPal Protection Policy Impacts eBay, Etsy and Ecommerce Sellers"

PayPal spent the week reminding sellers and off-eBay merchants about its new policy regarding buyer claims through an email campaign. eBay also reminded sellers that Buyer Protection cases would count as part of their performance standards beginning this month. Neither policy has been greeted favorably by marketplace sellers or online merchants - said one reader, "the days where PayPal was good for your site / bad if you sold on eBay are over - now you are stuck with potentially bad policy regardless where the item was sold."

eBay has been highlighting its Buyer Protection program to buyers this month as the holiday shopping season gears up. It posted a reminder to sellers on Thursday that, as it had announced in its Summer Seller Update, cases filed by buyers through the eBay and PayPal Buyer Protection programs will be considered along with DSRs in evaluating seller performance, starting with the October seller evaluation cycle.

PayPal was also busy this month, sending emails to merchants and services that offer PayPal on their own websites.

PP is a selfish company. The buyer protection in some cases is good, but the way is implemented is no good.

It is too bad that outside PP isn't there are real alternative.

The only type of seller that would say that is a bad seller.

A good seller wants his buyers to be protected. If they feel safe, they'll buy more online.

Despite all of the choices, superior pricing and best efforts of good sellers, online selling is only 3% of the market and it's the crooks who cheat their buyers under the assumption that the rules let them get away with it that keep us from getting more.

I welcome Paypal's move - it's about time.

So again eBay is adding more protection to the buyers protection program. Previously when a buyer file a complaint of "item not as described" thru paypal, it is settled immediately in sellers' favor. Now it seems like they are adding more protection for the buyer but does anyone know how it works?
How can eBay say they have a right to settle this kind of complaints? No one other than the ppl involved can know for sure which side is at fault.

It is simple in ebay terms, if you are the seller it is your fault.
If you are the buyer then you are innocent.

The buyer is always right, unless you are buying your add space for your products on ebay then you should have known better than to trust them, so it is your own fault for being so dumb.

I would agree in some cases and disagree in others.
I sell on eBay of course and do not sell cheap crap on there. So when I get complaints I am shocked, haven't had a case go in the bad in quite a while so...

On the other hand.

My girlfriend recently order four different items from different sellers.
All four of them were a huge disappointment. One of them she didn't even receive, even though the tracking number says it was delivered. out of the three of them, two were described in a way that made it sound good. Of course, they are not going to say their stuff is junk, but.. One of the three was definitely not as described.

Since I am a seller I tell her what to do to get the item that didn't show up resolved. She contacts the seller, got a response saying their computer was down, but they would look in to it. 4 days go by, no response, So I tell my girlfriend to email them again. I know how it can be when you forget something. Got no response.. Now... All four of these are top rated sellers. I wonder how.. I don't even think my girlfriend left any feedback for them, yet.

I haven't bought on eBay in quite a while. That being the reason. It seems as though it is getting hard and harder to find items that don't come from Japan, Korea, or China. Not that there is a problem with things made in China, Korea, or Japan because there really isn't. If you now what you are buying.
Personally I am glad eBay is getting tougher. It is showing that eBay is trying to win the buyer back that has bought crap and decided not to buy off eBay again. Personally I think they should push even harder. Let the better sellers that care about quality and customer service stick around and let the bad ones go by the waste side.

Ebay is slowly turning in to Alibab and I don't think they want that.

bluestreaksi has a point. It is true some sellers over there in eBay are really bad. And also make good sellers look bad.

About the TRS. Sometimes I look their feedback I get surprise to see some of them have hundreds of negatives in a month. Then you begin to read some of the negatives and some have valid comments. Not just a stupid mad unfair childish comment.

elpereles,

I have learned a few things about buyers over the last few weeks. My girlfriend has never bought on eBay before. By the way, we just recently got together, less than six months. She sees me selling on eBay, sees what I'm selling, sees how I treat my customers and how it bothers me when I am out and about on my day off or a weekend and I get an email on my phone about a problems with an item.
So, she gives it a try. I guess thinking that, that is a standard on eBay. We can suggest things after the fact, but her doing business on eBay is probably done now.
She didn't know what a TRS meant, she didn't care, most don't She saw what she thought was a great deal and bought what she wanted.
I mean seriously how many buyers do you get with over 50 feedback's? How many of those do you think buy online regularly, but not on eBay. I wonder why?

About the feedback, Of course it's all about the volume being sold. We all know only about 50% of buyers leave feedback. So it's a good way to measure one's business in a month. (even your competition). Higher volume sold, higher amount of feedback being left. Allows you to take the more negatives with out it hurting your TRS status. It's all about the percent.. It's a shame too..

Maybe buyers should be forced to leave feedback before their next purchase, maybe then we could get a real idea on how someone runs their eBay business and flush out some bad sellers.

Sorry for the long posts this has just bothered me for about a week now, just been to busy to post for discussion.

easy solution. Stop using paypal off ebay, there are viable alternatives and the only reason it was used off ebay was because it was not as much trouble as it was on ebay.

Now it is worth paying the fifty quid to get the Nochex merchant account, so I can accept overseas payments.

The ebay method of buyer protection is great if you are selling off the shelf pre packed low cost items.
But once you begin to sell anything other than that then you are being hounded off ebay, as the system is not prepared for buyers as described above that see a great bargain and do not consider the reasons the item is cheaper.

So now ebay are trying to make the rest of the internet full of the same junk as they are trying to push.

And some think that is a good thing?
