Nothing

I don't sell Apple related products. Nor do I buy them.

You are going for a niche site, which is fine. But it leaves out the vast majority of buyers.

Well, you may be correct. However, we have done our research and spent money doing it, and the percentage of Apple users is extremely high and growing. Apple is widespread from Mac, to ipods, to itunes, to iphones and the market share is growing exponentially. Additionally, the iPhone can currently only be sold to a quarter or so of Wireless users in the US alone. This is sure to change in the near future. Not to mention, the rapidly growing success of Apple worldwide.

While you make a valid point regarding our niche wiping out potential consumers. You fail to see that if we launched a full line "eBay" style site we would get crushed. You simply cannot compete. Niche sites are popping up everywhere and in every level of the internet.

I will draw a parallel to dating sites. A dating site that is new and tried to take on Match.com would be crushed. You simply cannot compete unless you want to through unlimited funding at it. So what have people done. They have created Niche dating sites to isolate a certain segment. Anything from country dating, black singles, to christian singles to Gay dating, etc... By going this route they are able to compete, because they have isolated their own niche, and have owned it.

Our belief is Apple is a great Niche to isolate. However, it is not the only niche for auction style sites. We are forward thinkers and believe we can carve a segment out within the Apple market.

Thanks,

Ashley

Match.com?

Never heard of them.

But then again, I don't bother with online dating services.

I never put you down for going after a niche market, just reminding you that doing so eliminates possible sales for you.

You understand that, so everything is fine.

I hope you do well with your site. Please understand that I do not purchase anything apple related. Computers, Iphones, Ipods, etc.

Dirty, I totally agree with you that having a niche site is the way to go. You just need to be careful with legal matters, but until you actually become something someday, there is no worries now.

And Lizard is always basing his responses around himself. He has no experience to criticize anyone. He states the obvious. (Of course a niche site will limit your items, BUT he overlooks the idea that it gives you a better chance of success, which is ultimately why you're doing what you're doing.) He said he doesn't bother with dating sites, then again, who asked? And in every thread he says he won't join and such; personally, I think he is damaging all the threads in this forum. He should be banned and all his threads should be removed. Then this site will be a much better place.

I second this motion.. he has nothing better to do but bash every thread, admits he is not a seller but tells sellers what to do. Lies about mostly everything he says. If you read enough of his posts you could figure that out yourself. But don't call him on it because he will insult you then block you.

Now I am no angel, but even I do not go into EVERY single thread and bash the OP in it.

Seriously? Never? You must not use Facebook either then because I saw the Match.com ads on Facebook about a thousand times before I 'tripped and fell' onto it one day, not consciously thinking about it, and NOT at all looking for a Match, but was very quickly grabbed by my current boyfriend...er...uh...Match. Highly efficient site even though I only accidently passed through and never was a paid subscriber to their service, so I imagine that it's possible to get pretty well Matched when people actually use the site 'on purpose'.

They do send an awful lot of emails. I'll bet it's a very profitable site.

Angel,

You're right, I don't use Facebook. Or MySpace or any of a number of social networking sites.

I had a Squidoo lens for awhile, when I sold on Blujay, but deleted it after I closed my store there.

Tony,

Of course I base my responses on myself. Who do you base yours on...George Bush?

And how would you know what experience I have had? Admit it, you're simply grasping at straws here.

Funny how it's okay for you to criticize me, but not for me to criticize websites? Isn't that a bit like the pot calling the kettle black and then asking for it to be removed?

If having a niche site gives you a better chance of success, then why do just as many niche sites fails as other sites?

And instead of banning me because I speak my opinion, you can always just click on the Ignore button, at which time, I and my opinions just disappear.

Guess you skipped the threads where I stated that Vendio and eCrater are on my short list of sites that I will check out further, when I'm ready to start listing once again.
