Next year I'm thinking about working through an "OLA: Where Are They Now?" as I have scads of Founding Member data dating back to 2006 and a couple of sites that will benefit from content.

I decided to take a break and run a couple of user names in a search engine to see if the project is worth considering. I found some ex-OLA sellers workin' over at Bonanzle and spotted feedback for stuffgottago.

Stuffgottago was a Founding Member at OLA and I remember stuffgottago's parting onlineauction.com posts here at PSU last spring so I decided to review/compare data between OLA and Bonanzle.

What's Wrong With This Picture?

The following data is from OnlineAuction.com Feedback Record

Total Feedback: 15 transactions

Current status: "This user is no longer active"

Last feedback left by another member: 04/12/09

Feedback for the past 7 days: positive 1

Feedback for the past 30 days: positive 2

Feedback for the past 6 months: positive 15

April 12, 2009 to December 09, 2009 = 211 days

180 days = 6 months
211 days = 7 months

The last feedback left for Stuffgottago was 7 months ago.

Feedback reflects activity 7 days ago and 30 days ago.

ALL transactions are presented as recent as 6 months ago.

More facts. I love those facts, numbers and such. I'd bet the OLA membership fees I no longer pay that this is merely the tip of that Titanic iceberg.

Respectable persons generally find "funny figures" most disquieting. Difficult to brag about a site when nothing positive can be attributed to it honestly. One more time, claiming a site works just isn't the same as bringing in those numbers.

I would never pay OLA large fees for anything.

The above is a reply from MPV to BL's statement that OLA should charge more fees. I moved it here from the "new Blog" thread as I felt this thread more appropriate.

I gotta' say how deeply I agree with Missprints. Who or why on earth would anyone be willing to hand such a place one more dime? I know plenty of free sites that are slick and sellers are far more successful. Handing fraudulent merchants money under another guise is pure folly. How does that change the 12 years of incompetence? If these positive moves haven't been considered by OLA management by now....well, no more really need said than that.

Trying to find a positive with OLA after all the truth is on the table is equal to trying to resusitate your dog that's been dead for many years. Anyone interested in sales and serious about online selling must surely understand OLA is something but, an online selling venue ain't it!!

Oh- I KNOW you are both probably right... After 12 years, there most likely isn't a 'come-back' for Ola..
I just have to wonder, how these auction sites, that charge NO fees, can even afford to keep such a site going- and why?

I guess, what I was trying to say.. is that if Ola (or ANY auction site) would come up with a site that compares to the "Old Ebay' (that we ALL loved) AND put money into television advertising.. it would be a huge success. These days we see so many Internet sites advertising on TV- Google, Twitter, etc. That's what it takes.

But, I do think Ola is happy with the $8.00 per month that they get from the members- without having to put any effort and cash into advertising Ola.. and getting the 'Ola' name 'out there'...

If I were rich... I would start an auction site that compared- in every way to the Old Ebay- The Old Ebay proved one thing.. that sellers WILL pay monthly fees.. and that buyers will flock, in DROVES to buy their items from Ebay... and they STILL DO- Amazingly... even WITH the new policies and high fees !!

I don't think any auction site has been 'bad-mouthed' and 'put-down' as much as Ebay has been !! They NEVER retialiate, or kick their members off, for speaking their minds- Which shows that they are professionals. .. They just keep on 'keeping on'..

Yes- many Ebay sellers DID leave in droves... Many (like myself) reduced the number of items they list each month.. But Ebay is STILL the only auction site where I DO make money !!

And I would dearly LOVE to see another site come along.. for the 'Mom & Pop' sellers, the old 'Flea-Market' sellers.. a site where you can find those 'one of a kind' collectibles.. The type that put Ebay on the map !
I guess it's just a 'Pipe-Dream'........ Betty Lou

I know of one in particular that brings in outside advertising and that's how they are able to offer it free.

Oh geeze, someone said something about OLA's sky falling. Caused me to look away momentarily only to return with my misquote. Glad I hadn't blamed you for something you did not agree with. Credit goes to golden. Fade to black.

I'll tell you something that I found a bit strange. When I hosted an Ola Game- I went into Ola' SOLDS to double-check the number of sales that the players had made.... Checked Page One of SOLDS... then moved on to Page Two- Page TWO reflected many of the SAME sold items that were on Page One !! I found this REPEAT OF SOLDS as I went through psge by page. I finally gave up, realizing that I wasn't getting the true number of SOLDS at all !! I DO realize that some buyers will buy 3 or 4 of the same item- but this is NOT what I was finding- these were individual sales (one of a kind type items ) ... and as I did this 'check'- I had to wonder... How does this affect the RECORDED number of SOLDS for any one month? I'm sure it's just a 'glitch'.... Betty Lou

Oh dear Betty Lou,

That is not a glitch my dear.

What you are witnessing is one of the not so slick ways that numbers are manipulated for visitors who do a quick look at stats. At first glance, it looks as if the site is making a lot of sales (but we all know the truth). It seems they never counted on anyone ever really looking at what, when and etc of the individual item sales. lol

Edited to fix a typo.
