Which would be a good deal, if you could get customers to use a different service.
After 3 months of not offering PayPal as an option at all, and 6 months of offering 4 services, only -1- customer EVER tried a different online payment processor.
When I didn't offer PayPal at all, people wrote and asked if I would accept PayPal.
$4.17 a month seems very reasonable, but it's a complete waste of funds if no one uses the service. And it's a very expensive way to process less than 4 payments a month. My experience points to the membership fee being an expensive option. |

I know what you mean. I offered C2it, the Citi Bank service, on all my E listings for over a year. During that time I had 2 customers use it.
Unfortunately I think Citi Bank was too early with their program. There wasn't the outcry yet about all the fraud and other cr@p that PP pulls.
If they were to offer the same service now, I think there would be a lot of sellers dropping PP like a hot potato. Too bad they didn't stick around a bit longer.

Annual membership fee is now $19.99.
That means less than $2.00 a month. |

| Paypal really isn't a bad deal. Plus everyone online is already using paypal. I don't think it is wise to reject paypal payments. Let's not try to slaughter two dragons at the same time! Even if it is just a two headed dragon. |

SO TRUE! The competition for PayPal is much worse off than the auction side. PayPal is a great deal, and although there are many problems with accounts and such, I'd still trust my money there than any company that I've only heard of through message boards.
The best way to stay away from PayPal is to open an account with your bank to accept CC's. It's cheaper than PayPal and you don't need to worry about payPal always believing the customer (I've heard the chargebacks are few and far between adn mediation is fair).
When dealing with people's bank accounts, you need to establish trust, and the notion that buyers will use this payment account. If I'm 99% sure that my information is safe with a company, why risk signing up when no buyer is going to use it anyways! The Reward/Risk ratio is still out of favour with the payment processor. |
