Anybody here have access to coal? I want a flat rate shoebox full. The bigger chunks the better...not looking for coal dust. Charcoal briquettes don't cut it. Want the real thing.
EDIT: Cool beans! LOL |

| Check with your local power company. Many utilities still use coal fired turbines to generate electricity. |

Often if you can locate the railroad tracks that lead into a power plant all you need to do is walk the tracks and you will be able to pick up more than you will need.
Of course I don't know if you would be able to figure out what kind it is or not.

 This is just too funny. It seems that anthracite is shiny and is harder where bituminous is duller and on the powdery side.
What I want it for is to mount pewter miner figurines on and then the little bits can be used for my train coal cars. Powdery wouldn't work at all which is one reason I don't use charcoal briquettes. Same thing using sandstone for desert scenes...a gluing problem.
I can use chunks of hematite, but that gets expensive and isn't authentic which is something I strive to achieve when I can. Of course, in the case of my gold mining scenes, iron pyrite (fool's gold) has to make do.
Many things in life are complicated, but it keeps the mind sharp. |
