eBay is running a 2-day sale on auction listings. On February 9 - 10, 2010, sellers who list Auction-style listings and have a 12-month detailed seller rating of 4.5 or higher on all criteria will receive 50% off the standard Insertion Fee. New sellers who don't yet have DSR ratings are also eligible.

My Guess is Ebay is having a shortage of Auction style listings big time. I thing they use these specials like a water faucet these days.. if the listings gets low they open the faucet more with a special.

I used to list them every day but with the 10c, 30day duration, free make an offer, free bin, fixed price .. why bother for a 7 day listing that people have to bid on and wait. Then the listing costs 50% more and usually gets no bids if on special. If not on special its 350% more for me in the $9.95 items and last 25% of the duration with extra $ for BIN. lol.

Auction format is great if there were bidders that up the bid.. like in the old days on ebay. I see auction format listing prices going way down on ebay in the future. my opinion.

"Will this be the last cheap listing day for eBay.com?"

eBay.com are running yet another cheap listing day over two days for auction listings. There’s 50% off insertion fees on the the 9th and 10th February, but sellers have to be either too new to have a DSR rating, or have a 12 month rating of 4.5 or above on all four criteria.

With Shop Inventory format ending on eBay.com at the end of March, and all fixed price listings appearing in core search results it’s an ideal time for sellers to experiment with auctions. From experience they not only get guaranteed visibility when the item is about to end, but can also increase sales on similar or related fixed price items.

There aren’t likely to be many more cheap or free listing days in the future. For casual sellers auction listings on eBay.com will be free, and business sellers will cease worrying about insertion fees as they have in the UK

If eBay is supposed to be trying kill auctions, why would they promote them with a sale?

Not sure how you got that out of my post? Perhaps i said it wrong?

I certainly was not saying Ebay was trying to get rid of auction format though that in fact is what could happen somewhat- with a deal like the fixed price with core search. Auction format will never go away and i'm sure the specials are a way of making sure that will not happen. Some will see the advantage of not using auction format anymore (like me) :-)

Unlike the other posters opinion -- I suspect we will see many more special auction format deals for quite a while as i think it is Ebay's way of getting more Auction format listings after the many that will stop doing auction format.

It looks like a special designed to correspond with the fixed price deal also going on right now as a prelude to the 3/30 fee change. Kind of a "wet your whistle" and try it out.

So far, I've had a noticeable increase in sales - especially for this time of year.

yes my sales are much better since i went to fixed price. more than double... if they get a little better (3x more) they will be about where i figure they should be.

lol. My sales since oct have been so bad on ebay anything would look good at this point. Alt sites made up for it. Summer was really good which surprised me.

Or they could be like me. I haven't sold anything on eBay in so long, that my DSRs have disappeared altogether.

But considering that media items only cost 10¢ now, 50% off is rather meaningless.
