|

Google, eager to take the Internet to the next level, isn’t waiting around for the telecoms or wireless providers to kick those connections into ultra-high-speed mode. In a blog post this morning, the company said it planning to build and test ultra-high speed networks in a small number of regions across the U.S.
The experimental fiber network will deliver speeds more than 100 times faster than most consumer connections today - a 1-gigabit-per-second fiber-to-the-home connection. The company said it plans to provide competitively-priced services to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.
So why does Google think we need faster connections to the cloud? Here’s its list of some examples of what a faster connection could bring:

| Competitively priced doesn't mean inexpensive though. |

Nor does it mean that those of us in the country will ever have access to that kind of speed. I feel lucky just to have Verizon and that literally took about 5 years.
I did have satelite which was better than dial up but 1G sounds almost real time to me. |

elgato: Have you tried using wireless from your cell company? I know Verizon reaches pretty far, infact even underground in the Hampton Roads area in VA. My father lives in a town call "Old Town" in the middle of no where and he has no problems using the card from Verizon to get some broadband access. He does still maintain his dialup service for just checking regular email and the weather.

No Tom I haven't checked into the wireless internet access with my host. I'm sure Sprint offers such a deal.
Thanks for the tip!! :D |

Well the more people who are on the internet the more money Google makes!!!
But I have to say a 1 gig pipe to the internet would just ROCK!
One of my friends apparently nominated my town for the experiment - fingers crossed!
