eBay is running a sale on auction listings. Sellers who list auctions on February 23 - 24, 2010, will receive 50% off the standard Insertion Fee per item listed if they have a 12 month detailed seller rating of 4.5 or higher on all criteria. (New sellers who don't yet have DSR ratings are also eligible.) All other fees apply, see eBay website for details and restrictions.

These little "ebay discount announcements" appear to be coming out every 2 weeks or so. |

| I got my email from them on Monday. I was thinking about trying it out again but not sure. Don't seem to be much bidding going on there anymore. Do you think people rather buy the item right out than to bid and wait? |

If the price is what I'm willing to pay, yes I'll go ahead and click the BIN button. Otherwise I don't mind waiting a day or two to see if I won the item I bid on. If I don't that means some poor smuck paid too much for the item I bid on IMHO, OR the seller had multiple accounts (I know shocking isn't it) and they just bought their own item, plus had to pay all of the FVF fees.
Over the past few weeks I've been shopping for certain stuff over there I'm not able to locate elsewhere and yes, I've been sniped several times, only to find the item relisted almost immediately. |

I always set my search agents up for "time ending soonest" so I can see the items that are near the end of their listings.
Then if I see something of interest and the price is within what I'm willing to pay, I bid. I don't like waiting days to find out if I won or not. |

Personally, I completely avoid auctions. Unless there is absolutely no other source for the item - and then I only snipe.
It's not just the wait - it's the waste of time and energy. I don't need to waste my time bidding on items I can just buy for a few bucks more. I've also twice in the last year won auctions really cheap, and then had the seller back out. That's it for me - no more game playing.
I've also found, at least for the kind of stuff I buy, that fixed price sellers are more reliable - especially when it comes to quick shipping.
As a seller, I now completely avoid doing auctions. Last holiday season, I sold a bunch of boxed DVD sets - the kinds of things I would always put up for auction - all fixed price. I had a 100% sell-thru and I got the top-end average auction price for each item. When you sell fixed price you can also do "immediate payment" - so there's no such thing as an NPB (or an e-check).
Quick, simple, done. |

I don't respond to auction sales anymore. In fact I do very little business on ebay anymore. Not many good buyers just other sellers looking for a steal. My website and phone business is really picking up. This week reminds me of 07 when I had a fantastic year.
I used to make 2 to 3 thousand in sales on an ebay reduced price listing sale. That was when they had buyers though, No more. Besides that FVF is a killer to me. |
