World of Good is likely to get a lot bigger in the near future. The brand, which helps artists in developing countries connect with buyers, has been acquired by eBay, and expansion seems to be the first thing on both sides' "to do" list.

Believe it or not, this isn't at all the random move it might appear to be. World of Good has been around for five years and boasts ties to 85 countries, so it's not some haphazard hippie project. Also, eBay and World of Good have actually been working together for two years, developing WorldofGood.com by eBay.

I burst out laughing when I read your comment DaLizardsLair! Must the time of day (early evening my way). And I haven't even had a glass of wine yet! Sad but true, your comment, that is.

Once again following the lead of Overstock.com, which started something similar several years ago with their "Worldstock" http://www.overstock.com/11977/static.html

World of Good has also been around for years.

Just that up to now, they've been able to avoid eBay.

GreyJaguar,

I'm glad you found it amusing.

You stirred up my idle curiosity about that. Just looking at their main web pages, World of Good was founded in 2004 http://www.worldofgoodinc.com/ and eBay proclaims "WorldofGood.com by eBay is the world’s first online marketplace to convene thousands of People Positive and Eco Positive sellers and products all in one place" http://worldofgood.ebay.com/ns/AboutUs.html

But wasn't Worldstock already all over Overstock's pages in 2004? Granted, as far as I could tell that was mainly CEO Byrne tooting his own horn by giving a grandiose name to their cheap supply of artisan and handmade crafts, but it seems to me that Overstock predated both World of Good and the nascent eBay makeover.

Sometimes I wonder if eBay is angling to be the next Overstock.com.

Well since it seems that Overstock is close to being in the dumper, we can only hope so.
