Hi
I'm a newbie to your forum.
If you want to see my type of listings as a reference point to my question, please see

on ebay
Now for my question,
We sell art, when I first started ,which was not long ago. I thought I had tested the search and it allowed me to put in the search box "tony stromberg the dance" in the art category and it would pop up my listings that had the words "stromberg:" or "dance" in them even if it didn't have the exact search string in the listing. I taught it was keyword sensitive.
So therefore I could for the sake of space only use artist last name, and a keyword of the print name and still get popped in search results when someone search with the first name and last name of artist or the full title of the print name.
I also thought connecting words such as , "the" , "and" "to" , "a", didn't matter in the title but now if I was to enter the search with "The Lesson Stromberg" it will not pop on my title listing of "Lesson Stromberg" either because "The" isn't in my listing.
Did something change or did I just not understand the exact string search results from the beginning. Hope I made sense in trying to explain my question. LOL
Also I want to tell you all that see's my post I sure appreciate all the knowledge you share so freely and how much I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks Brenda |

| When you entered "The Lesson Stromberg", did you enclose it in quotes or parenthesis? If so, then that would be your reason. |

Hi ,
No quotes, only the words, the lesson stromberg. Because I didn't have the word, the , in the title, it wouldn't show up. Even though I had lesson, and stromberg in my search and in the title of the listing.
I tried this with another listing too, the listing has the words , afternoon grandpa stoecklein, search had the words, afternoon with grandpa stoecklein, didn't pop in the results because I didn't use the connecting word, with.
Maybe it's always done this and I just didn't realize it. Not sure, thanks for the response. Brenda |

Hi picture peddler.
Well, what you are saying is definitely true and the search test is easily duplicated. However, I have no idea if it's a change or not.
I was always taught to never use any extraneous words when doing a keyword search (I wish I could remember who taught me that...LOL). So if I am searching for a US flag I search "flag us" - but never "flag of the us".
You might of been thinking Google, which actually does ignore conjuntives. |

| Whenever I've tried doing a search within eBay, unless I was already in the particular section I was interested in, the results would be all over the place. |
