|

Not everyone is interested in upgrading to Windows 7 -- at least not right away. Computerworld's survey respondents who said they have no plans to upgrade reported that they just don't see enough benefit, particularly in these tough economic times, to warrant the cost of migration.
For Carl Weddle, director of IT at Quality Trailer Products, Windows 7 isn't even on the radar. "We were clawing our way out of a hole until a few months ago," he says, referring to the recession. Even in better times, he adds, "I tend to stay on the back end of the technology curve because it's cheaper there."
But procrastinating could be costly in the long run. Microsoft says it will end support for Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on April 8, 2014. (Organizations still using SP2 will lose support in 2012). People who wait too long -- or whose migration projects get too far behind schedule -- may get stuck paying for custom support, under which getting critical security fixes can run upwards of $200,000 per year.

| Maybe by 2014 MS will have the bugs worked out of 7 and I'll be ready to upgrade. |

I can tell you, I resent the idea of paying for an upgrade to windows 7, which is essentially Vista service pack 4. Microsoft works out the bugs in it's horrible Vista OS, and releases it as Windows 7. Typical Microsoft. I think it's time I switched entirely over to MAC.
If anyone has lost their thumbnail preview of video files in Vista due to broken cache links, I have the fix...lol

I like Windows 7 fine, but it's still Vista service pack4 sold as a new operating system release. No one with Vista should have to pay a dime to upgrade from the bug ridden Vista to Windows 7. One might even consider Microsoft intentionally designed a crappy product (Vista) in order to create a market for a follow up OS release. If one were as cynical as I, that is.

MS needs to quit forcing these upgrades on everyone and it's not just us, it's the software and hardware makers that have to constantly make changes so their items play well with each new version.
Can you imagine buying a new car and being told that after 8-10 years that the dealer won't service it any more nor will they supply replacement parts for it. That wouldn't fly in the rest of the world but for some reason
MS keeps getting away with it.
By the time some of us are forced to think about upgrading to Windows 7 they'll be announcing the date they're going to stop supporting it. |

It's a shame MS doesn't invest as much effort in creating a stable, bug free OS as they do in developing new and innovative ways to infest your PC with MS spyware, such as the infamous 'genuine advantage'.
My personal top three list of corporate crooks:
1. Microsoft
2. ebay
3. printer manufacturers. (because of the ink cartridge hustle).

I take it you've never heard of Oldsmobile. If it weren't for the fact that so many of their parts are used in other models, you wouldn't be able to buy parts for them. |

Brandr,
Buy refilled ink cartridges at Walgreens for $10 for black and $15 for color.
Or if you don't mind getting a little dirty, DollarTree sells black ink refill kits for a buck. |

Actually DLR and Brandr~
This source is much better. http://www.psinkmaster.com
I have been using this man for over 6 years. I found him at one of my local monthly computer shows. His ink is as good if not better then the OEM ink, and on many printers, he as special ink cartridges made to be refilled, making it easier. He will answer your emails, phone calls, etc. I highly recommend him and his product line. I personally will not use any other ink, and have not used any other since I discovered him. His name is Jim.

At home, I have an HP officejet pro. HP has a chip in the cartridge that will make it inoperable if you refill it. And it always tells the printer it's empty when still half full. The printer has 8 different cartridges which each cost about 25 USD , and last long enough to print about one envelope. I have noticed so many ink refill places have gone out of business. HP and other printer manufacturers have actually sued such businesses claiming their products' cartridges are proprietary and refill services are infringing on copyright by refilling them. Have you ever heard such a stretch? It's like telling someone who buys a new Ford Focus they can only fill their tank at the dealership where they bought there car...lol
And you wonder why I am so anti-corporate? I am just too aware of their actions for my own good. But life does go on.

| My HP 2110 has a strip in the side... I refilled it once and it it didn't recognise the cartridge when I replaced it. But I used it again later and it did. |

That is not true. Canon has many cartridges the same way. If there is a way around these chips, Jim knows it. He has taught me how to get around the canon ones that I use, and some printers that have that, you can get a chip resetter. Jim has been in business a very long time, and every time he is up in my area computer show, he is swamped with repeat customers, me being one of them. I have had canons, brothers, epsons printers, and have been able to get all the ink and/or cartridges through Jim. If you can't tell, I'm a very happy customer of his. He is very knowledgable on all printer cartridges. What can you loose? Contact or call him. The worse that can happen is that you will be stuck with the manufacture cartridge, but I don't think that will happen.

If I ever run for president, my first order of business will be to promulgate the: 'universal standardisation of ink cartridges bill'. Section II paragraph 1 will specify that: all ink cartridges manufactured or sold in the US be designed for easy home refilling. As a Libertarian I would be a wonderful president for us, but Meg and John would do a grassy knoll on my Arse...lol
