MasterCard Worldwide plans to launch Monday the MasterCard MarketPlace, an online mall with more than 28,000 merchants. The payment card network is collaborating on the project with Next Jump, an Internet company that specializes in personalized shopping.

The MasterCard MarketPlace, marketplace.mastercard.com, features promotions, such as 15% off at Kodak.com. If a shopper is interested in a promotion, she can sign in to the MarketPlace and receive the promotional code. Or, the shopper can elect to receive a notification when a merchant has similar offers in the future or if the merchant has an in-store shopping event.

The site also asks a shopper to note a handful of merchants she would be interested in buying from. Next Jump then monitors how she shops on the site and alters promotional offers to her accordingly.

Guess this is a "SHE" only site, NO "HE'S" allowed.

Last night while flipping through channels I saw a MasterCard Marketplace Television Ad. Slick production as would be expected. I started thinking about how many times People here including myself have said if only a new selling venue would come along with an advertising budget.

Well the time has come! Maybe... The rest of the story
If you visit the new web-site you will find basically eBay's platinum sellers, so I am not sure how or if we can be sellers there. Macy's, MLB.com, Barnes and Noble, Flowers.com, Omaha steaks all big time companies.

I also read an article about them inviting 1500 developers to create a state of the art payment processing platform. With focus on mobile payment processing without having to input personal info with every purchase.

I went ahead and registered. Geez, now I will got a thousand MasterCard offers. by Email. All they ask for is email address, full name and zip code.

I decided to look at the bargains and picked Macy"s which they redirect you to a Macy"s page, I clicked on an item, and got the discounted price, and thought it looks a lot like the regular Macy's web-site. So I opened another window and went to the Macy's web site and found the same item. It was not on sale at the Macy's web-site.

>MasterCard said it was working to assure customers’ privacy. For one thing, customers are not automatically enrolled in the marketplace site but must sign up on their own. Retailers will not be provided names of specific customers but rather a batch of customers who share certain characteristics, like income level or having young children.

This is a problem. Any entity ''working on'' privacy needs to get it together: do not launch until you are secure.

Mastercard online appeals to me as a buyer.
As a seller, I am conFUSSed how it is an improvement over Paypalie with which I have a long relationship. The only difference may be : the many people hold Mastercards in their wallets. Few, in comparison, hold a PP account with a card~ which I avoided.

I have a Mastercard which dates back to before Christ left Chicago(there are some benefits to being 105 years old) At any particular moment I wish to do so, I pick up the phone and all issues are resolved: presume a false charge or a Return credit, late to arrive.

I dunno, on its face Mastercard's caper sounds terrific. As a seller: I'd bet you'll get short-shrift, a plethora of emails(as a looker who had searched you~ this would turn me off as a buyer. )~and wait to receive a response unless there is a phone line number I've missed. Appears to be for BIG sellers. That's not I.

I'm no Shill for Paypal. We've had our issues. Believe it. Posted here on PSU, earlier.

OTOH, PP is Clean, accesible by phone, and has worked for me for 6 years. Cannot fault them in the long run. I can complain, and have, loudly~ yep, on occasion when the circumstance required it.

Overall, PP earns their 3%. You pay to play wherever you are. That fee is called a commission: doesn't matter if you are buying a bag of potato chips in the stupor market or a widgit online. The result is the same. It's the 'Merican way.

I heard about this earlier. 2 concerns;

1. Like the others, I don't like the concept of "working on" security - you either have it or you don't. The scammers out there could pick MC's bones while they're "working on " their security.

2. MC has experience as a merchant banker, NOT as a sales platform. They're up against serious competition and they're trying to go from 0-5,000 mph overnight. Problems, even massive problems, are almost guaranteed.
